The last time I was in Bass Pro the salesmen was not only talking about brands but which models was actually built for saltwater. I emailed Okuma and Shimano a couple of days ago and received the responses below.

Most of Okuma's reels are OK to use in saltwater, however, there are a few that are specifically designed for that application...

The Salina is a new reel for 2007.  It has high-density, stainless steel gearing, which helps with corrosion resistance.

The Coronado also has the stainless steel gearing, but includes a baitfeeder function.

The Axeon & Oryx are surf-fishing reels.

Wishing you good fishing,

Yes all of our reels are approved for salt water. We do have some that were specifically engineered for use in salt water as well. The
Thunnus, Baitrunner and Spheros reels are all designed for salt water use.
