| | Compared to Shimano reels, how are the Okuma? I am just iching to try one, but I think I am going to stay with shimano. Unless told otherwise. Do they last long, durable? Thanks Practice CPR (Catch-Photo-Release)

| | I am slowly replacing all my Shimano's with Okumas. Granted, I don't have the higher end Shimano's, but for the price, I don't think the Okuma's can be beat. Been using an Epixor EB20 (baitfeeder) for about 3 or 4 years now, no problems other than a broken handle when I hit it with my shin while in the console rod holder. It has caught some large fish and never given me a problem. I now have an Epixor 20, Epixor 20 Baitfeeder, and Epixor 50 as my go-to reels. Trim-Tab from this forum has caught numerous redfish over 40 inches from my boat using his Epixor 30 and 10 lb PowerPro (although I still don't know how he does it fishing under our bridge). I was sold on Okumas when another one of my friends caught a couple of 29 inch grouper using a 20 series baitrunner (posted here a couple of years ago). Been happy with them, and have been the only reels I have purchased since then, and I'm not really on a budget any more.....just can't see spending all that extra $$$$. chumhead

| I've owned and used many models of Okuma ranging from lowend Avenger to top of the line VS. I have gotten rid of all Shimano reels in my garage but the Okumas are staying for good. I still have a couple of avengers that have been in service for a few years of real abusive use. the VS has one of the best drag systems I've ever seen.
Whatever price range you are looking for, Okuma has a reel for you.

| Gonna start callin ya fisherman(360)because you are a circular poster. When you ask a question and recieve an answer that answer spawns another question and it is one big circle, hee hee hee just messin with ya man. I got okumas and higher end shimanos and am still trying to decide what I like best, but in the meantime, I am cathing fish (which is the point )
I once had a bad day of fishing, but it was still great! CHB: the few, the proud, the chosen |
