I hunt dove on occasion , but unless the neighbor wants them , I dont mess with it , (I wont kill what I dont eat) and I dont eat dove....But I am one of the fortunate few left that can do it in his own back yard..until some more freakin city dwelling scum buys or forces the farmers out of business....back on track , sorry. But as I was sayin, I have a 4 acre pasture in the back that borders an 1100 acre cattle ranch so I never have to leave the yard. Last year the flight pattern was a little different than usual , so I wasnt getting the volume of birds over my place , but they are still enough to have fun.

I love to dove and quail hunt. Problem is there isn't much hunting land left in Southwest Florida due to development. Used to hunt dove and quail every season when I was growing up around Venice and in Rotonda West.

Wish we had some dove fields around because I really enjoy shooting.

Hard to beat fried doves and hearts in peanut oil seasoned with garlic salt! Mmmmmm. That's good eatin to me!

The best days we ever had was several years ago when my Dad, my brother and I hunted an area in Rotonda West that was supposed to be a golf course but the developer went bankrupt after they had seeded it. Since it was natural grass seed, it wasn't considered a baited field. We killed our limit of doves (36) - 3 days in a row or 108 birds total! We ate everyone of them too! That grass seed drew the birds in by the thousands! That was some fantastic pass shooting and we didn't use too many boxes of shells. Heard the average is 1 dove to every 7 shells.

I'd pay to just find a place in Southwest Florida that I could go dove hunting like we did in the good olde days. I'd even travel to go somewhere in the state to get in on some great shooting. Dove hunting is a Southern tradition and one that I really miss participating in. Consider yourselves very fortunate just to have a place to hunt here in Florida that isn't posted as No Trespassing or a Bird Sanctuary.

When is Snowbird Season and What's my bag limit? LOL
