| You may not want me to answer that one . Any baitcaster pro's here know why his line is burying? Seems like Blair has used baitcasters for big reds with power pro without difficulty.

| | My limited experience with baitcasters / conventional reels has show that if PP is put on loose, it will bury in the spool... the other question we should ask is what type of braid were you using? (brand)

| | You were using 65# power pro on a baitcaster? What in the world were you fishing for and with? Why would you go from 65# power pro down to a 40# mono? Many people make the mistake of using a far heavier pound test of power pro than they need due to its small diameter. Even so, overpowering your tackle with the line can cause problems.

| | I believe the MoganMan had replied on another post that he also uses 65 lb PowerPro on his baitcaster, something about the larger diameter being easier to cast? You DO have to make sure the bottom of the spool is spooled on very tight, or you will have problems of the line getting embedded in the spool once you do put a lot of pressure on it. chumhead

| Ande is all I use, Im not yet sold on braid. my friend uses braid and he doesn't catch anymore fish than me and has just as many break-offs, tangles and other problems. so I see no real advantage to the braid vs mono thing and NO, its not about the price difference either

| Note of caution this is just my opinion and not everyone will agree...What else could in possibly be anyways..... I use mostly mono (Yo-zuri hybrid)..but I have now placed braid on one of my outfits, this is the testing phase for me........ I am an avid bait caster user (yes I have a problem and have tried all the programs to correct this but I keep coming back to bait casters). I have found (to me of course) that bait casters seem to be more sensitive. Just look at the two (spin/bait) the line on a spinning reel runs through a right angle turn, across the bail, to get back to the spool. The line revolves around the center axis of the spool. You can't keep a finger on the line as it comes in. Any weight or impact or change of tension has to be felt through the reel. On a bait caster, you can keep a finger on the line, if you want, and there is no revolving right angle turn to muffle sensation in the line. You'll feel more of what goes on at the end of the line. There is an ergonomic advantage to bait casters. Put a spinner and a bait caster of the same line capacity side by side. The spinner will be bigger. The bait caster will fit with less stretch into your hands. This is a subtle thing, but it's real, and most anglers who fish with both kinds of tackle would probably agree. It's one of those things that grow on you with practice; the more you fish, the more you feel it. Oh yeah back to the question he was asking....First of all I would have to ask you a question: What kind action is the rod that you are using with your ABU 6000 outfit? I have read a lot about this subject and using braided line on a bait casting reel, the rod needs to have a very fast taper. That is, the tip of the rod needs to be very limber and flexible while its backbone needs to be heavier and with less give. With a fast taper rod, the stretch this is missing in the braided line is made up for in the flexibility of the tip during hook set. If you are using a medium-heavy or heavy action rod this is not the best choice for braid because their is no give in the rod tip and if you are using a slow taper rod the kind that will bend in a U shape they are just as bad because they have too much give. So I would us a fast to ex |
