| | I have heard of people using it to 'reel backwards', but can't understand how that would be any better than a properly set drag? I just leave it in anti-reverse and let the drag do its job. I just don't see a use for a reverse?????????? chumhead

| OK...I will add my 2 cents here I feel with all the problems that can be associated with the anti-reverse on spinning reels they should be done away with, well at least on saltwater reels. I think some folks here may be getting confused with what some manufacturers have added on the reels like “infinite anti-reverse” keeping the spool from rotating backwards to any degree. I have a quick story about those reverse switches. While fishing a small island in the south pacific I hooked into a very large grouper in 250ft. While I was fighting the fish using a Penn 8500 while trying to keep him from pulling off too much line and palming the spool and I some how hit the reverse switch and well the rest is history as I did not get the fish and I still have a large scar on my finger where the bail ripped the flesh off while going in reverse (very fast) with all the pressure I had on the fish. So for me just eliminate reverse entirely...Forgive me if I've missed something glaringly obvious, but I've never found it anything but a pain in the butt. I do remember when I was much younger and fishing some of the piers around the Ft. Myers area some folks visiting from up north using the reverse switch to reel the baits down to the water (that use to drive me nuts, along with them hold the reel upside down in the process). I try now to buy only reels that have the switch up under the front of the spools vice right on the rear end of it. |

| I don't use the anti-reverse at all. I don't know why you would want to reel backwards on a fish unless it is for those that hold the reels upside down when they reel in? LOL "Better Out than In I always Say" ....Shrek As to spinning reels, I really like the Quantum Inshore Catalyst PT-30 for lightweight reel with a simple handle. The Boca's and Cabo's are very nice but a little heavy for me. I also don't like a bulky reel handle but that's me. I also like the Penn Slammer spinning reels, especially the 260 and 360. I have the Made in USA models and won't part with them "priceless". I wonder how the quality will be on the new imported Slammers since Penn is making them overseas now? Tight Lines, KT

Here's a big question I would like to know...... How many of you out there actually use the anti reverse on a reel? Does anyone reel backwards on a fish? I've never used that feature ... well, not on purpose anyway. Also, since I use PP and manually close the bail, I don't see the need for a bail at all. Just a GOOD post with some hot dog rollers would work fine for me. Lift itr off the roller to cast, put it back on the roller when I'm done. I think there's already a line of reels out there now that has this, but I can't remember who makes 'em.
