| Hello,
First off I would like to say hello to everyone.
I am new to this forum and also to fishing the Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon area. I looking to purchase a new Okuma reel to match my Redbone (ML) RB-454. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance |

| Love my Okumas. My favorite is now the Inspira having surpassed the Alumina, which used to be my fave. Either the 30 or 40 series is great. Really smooth, thanks to the 11 bearings.

| | I just bought my first Okuma! It's an Avenger AV30. I have to spool it with PP, still, but I got it to go on my new little Ugly Stick I had at MM. It HAS to beat the dink little shakespear rell that came on the rod. I just can't get my meaty little fingers around the handle! Just thought I'd share.

| | Thanks for the welcome. I started looking at both the Epixor EF 30 and the Eclipz EZ 30. Any thoughts on the Eclipz?

| | I have the same redbone and as already mentioned, a 20-30 size okuma or 2500 size in other reels will be a good match. I have two of the supposedly top of the line Okuma VS but to be honest, I am having my share of problems with it. Both of them are starting to not reel as smoothly and on one, It would totally freeze up so I ended up having to take out a plastic bushing from within the reel to make it usable which it now is. A new problem arose this weekend. Now the bail is clicking each time I twitch my topwater. Somthing is comming lose. My plan now is to get my older 4000 Shimano stradics serviced (I had set them aside because after about 6 years of use the anti reverse started acting up). Then once they are ready I am gonna send off the Okumas which I have only had for less than a year. I am not sure now how much faith I have in them. Dont get me wrong, they are not totally busted but there are some definite lilttle glitches. Meanwhile my 2500 shimano sustain that I have had for years on my meduim light redbone, is still working like a champ.
I once had a bad day of fishing, but it was still great! CHB: the few, the proud, the chosen |

| I've been using Okumas for several years now and used everything from bottom to the top of the line. The EF30 would be a good choice. Not too much money and you'll get a lot of use out of it because it holds up well. They are easy to work on if you have prior experience working on newer style reels. The EF20 might interst you if you are looking to go lighter.
The Eclipz is a knuckle buster... the bail is large and if you hold your rod like you're supposed to, it comes around and thumps your knuckles with every revolution of the handle.
Matt, take advantage of your 5 yr warranty, that's what it's there for! but becareful with taking parts out. I'm not sure but it might void the warranty. I still haven't had any problems with mine but I might have been in the same boat... When I got my VS it sounded dry so I took it apart and lubed it with Hot Sauce. I haven't had any problems since. Either way, I'm sure they would want to hear from you so they can fix any problems that they may be having.
