Summer time is the right time for cajun thunders and silver skitterwalks in just about any depth at any time of day.

I can tell ya this, when it comes to DOA shrimp (a good choice) use the glo color under the cork, for some reason it does better under a cajun thunder.

I once had a bad day of fishing, but it was still great!

The CT/DOA combo is great during the heat of the day. But with the dark water we have down south, ive been using golden bream/glo tail DOA shrimp. Its been killer lately. Then swithching to Super spook jrs once the sun gets low enough.

Hey trootin, those fish wont take the topwater when the sun is up? Yeah of course it is always better when topwater is used in the ealry morning and late afternoon, but they have been workin for me for bigger reds and trout even when the sun is directly overhead.

Where I fish here on the west, the water clarity is forever changing even on a daily basis, but in the summer, the DOA glo shrimp under a Cajun Thunder, and the silver skitterwalk spank em all day. Last year I did it almost entirely on the thunder but now I use the skitterwalk all day all over.

Check out the red in my recent fishing report that nailed my topwater with the sun way up and the wind kicken.

DOA,

They will hit topwater but as you know you will get fewer fish so I tend to go with the DOA. On a overcast day Ill throw it all day. Sometimes my wrist starts to hurt though from walking the dog all day, another reason why I go to the CT/DOA lol.

You know me and DOA's, if there is any chance the DOA will outfish another lure (as for me they usually do) I will use the DOA, but up here in the Big Bend and in this time of the year, the topwater is outfishing the cajun thunder all day even with the sun up and the wind blowin!

Of course that could be totally different in your area. Oh and I know what you mean about the wrist thing. You can remedy this by first of all not working the lure as aggresively because it does not take much of a twitch to effectively walk the dog, or I will often keep my wrist straight and just use my forearm by kicking my elbow out a little on a twitch. This will give you wrist a break.

I went out to the lagoon a week ago near tiger shoals and right at sunlight i was tossin a green and white buzz bait and the trout were destroying it. there is a big drop off along a bar and we were tossin up to the shallows and when it would get to that drop KAAA BLAMMMM! 4 nice trout biggest 23 inches and we caught a couple small reds on them too.
