| I talked to Cracker yesterday and he's climbing the walls. His computer died, crashed, umm, it's gone to computer heaven, and Cracker is going through "HE" double "L". A computer neighbor spent like untold hours trying to work his computer magic but even he thinks it's gone. If any anyone has an old computer to donate to a very worthy cause please let him know, if you have his number, or me. Again, if you know Cracker he's either fishing or posting here and on Facebook. I'm going thank you in advance for him since, well, since he can't get on line. Thanks again.

| | Mine took a dump on Thursday after Comcast swapped McAfee for Norton AntiVirus. I removed McAfee, loaded Norton, and had to reboot to finish the install. Well, it would only get up to the "loading Windows" screen and then shut down and re-start.....over and over and over and.... I keep all my pics and music on an external USB hard drive (about $ 75 and worth every penny) so I just re-formatted. Well, the system recovery disk that says it has all the drivers turns out not to have ANY drivers.....which creates a Catch22.....you need the drivers to get to the internet, and you need to get on the internet to get the drivers. I had been planning on getting a netbook for some wireless forum surfing, but found a nice little laptop with better spec's than my desktop for $30 more than the cheapest netbook....3 gigs of RAM, DVD burner, 15.4" screen. Luckily, I was able to locate, download and install all the drivers I needed and got the desktop back up and running. Now my biggest issue is getting used to the new keyboard and track pad on this laptop instead of using a mouse. Planning on installing the wireless router tomorrow.....might need to take an extra blood pressure pill! lol.... Glad you are back up and running. As soon as you can swing it, you may want to invest in an external hard drive (or a second internal drive) for storing your pics and music. I saw a 1 terabyte (1,000 gigabyte) drive on sale around Christmas for $79, right after I purchased my 500 Gig for $75. You can go back thru the forums and copy the pictures you posted back to your drive. chumhead

| That is what mine did.........kept shutting down, network would not stay conected, could not get Updates.....even tried to load a Linux Mint program instead of Windows, but still had a Network problem.....Changed Network Card, and it to another port in the Motherboard....Same Problem Back in Aug. of last year,a CD Store went belly up,and threw away several CD Players, and one DELL Dimension 2350 Tower,I kept the Sony 5 Disc CD Changer{works perfect},and gave the DELL to my computer guy next door....{good thing}.........He told me that he still had it,never plugged it in......we brought it over, hooked it up,but got the dreaded Blue Screen,so I messed with it a bit, loaded my XP Disc,he downloaded the 4 Drivers we needed from his computer, then I spent hours downloading Updates lastnight I still need to remove my old Hard Drive, and install it into the DELL as a Secondary Drive,it may still be holding my PICS and Music....so there is still hope I may still install Linux.........Later

| | I just installed a wireless network....and what a shock....it works! Now I can surf the net wirelessly from anywhere in or around the house. Only took about 5 minutes to get up and running,.....the instructions said fast and easy install, but I never really expected it would be! lol.... Sure hope you will be able to recover your pics and music from the hard drive..... chumhead
