| | I have seen everything used from 12 lb Jack Crevalle to de-barbed sting rays....I think they will pretty much eat anything that fits in that bucket-mouth of theirs. The biggest issues are going to be location, location and location.....once you find them, chances are they will eat pretty much anything you offer, preferably live bait. chumhead

| | Ive had some luck fishing the Belton Johnson reef about 2-3 miles off the lighthouse beach caught 100lb fish and ub gettin broken off on the big ones. Also fishing the deeper parts of "A" span of the causeway with just about any big baits from mullet and aldyfish to stingray and jack or jack chunks |

| They will eat anything, Biggest one I caught (100lb) was on a 3ft bonnethead shark. Any shallow water structure usually has them, they are getting to be over populated so finding them isn't really a problem. As for tackle, the bigger the better. I use a 7ft custom rod rated to 60lb - 80lb test line, a penn senator, 300lb mono to a 10ft 600lb leader with a 10oz egg sinker, and a 16/0 circle hook. Just make sure you have something to use in your advantage as leverage, because if you hook one big enough it will pull you in.

| The jewfish or now called goliath grouper to be politically correct may be caught using most any kind of bait. Lures, live bait big and small will work. If you want the big ones use big bait. If you go after really big ones you will have to use a heavy outfit. Even 20 pound fish will drag your line into a hole or some type of cover. You have to react fast and turn them so they don't head into cover. Get them out fast. I have also caught them in the back waters on many occasions while fishing for snook or reds. |
