| I have and still tie some for my friends. Vlap... Isn't one of the best feelings, to have one of, if not your first fly to be eaten on the flats? I love making flies and have Lefty Krey's video. I tied flies for over 2 years without any instruction and think it helped me get a better understanding of what the fish want. One of the craziest things ever to happen to me in saltwater happen..... when I tied the SUPER FLY! Took a 1/4oz red jig head, and put yellow and white buck tail with malibu flash then went to the Courtney Campbell for pompano. Went there with Doc's jigs and ran out, but had the SF in the box and said, "What the F--k." Dropped it 2 or 3 times before siiiiiiiiinnnnnnnngggggggg, 2 mins later saw a 100 lb tarpon jump on a 4300 penn with 8lb test! Lost him after the third jump, but will always remember that for the rest of my life. If anyone fishes the Tampa Bay, I have some good color schemes that most would not believe.
I didn't get where im at today, by worrying about what I'd feel like tomorrow! |

| | Nothing better then tying a fly and catching a fish! Its better then tricking them with a store bought plug. Vlap, I saw your post about hooking a fish but not catching it so I thought I'd put in my .02 worth. First were you pointing your rod at the water/at the fly? Remember that you set the hook with a strip strike, NOT a rod set like plug fishing. Jerking the rod will only result in a pound or less of pressure (just a guess). Strip strikes are transfered straight (pointing at the water and the fly) down the line and to the hook. 2D |

| | Here's a pattern I posted on another site tha works pretty good for me Caroline Shrimpi Materials Hook: mustad sig. c 4750 Gamma Sl 45 size 2-4 Thread: (color to match fly) I don't use flat waxed for this fly Antennae: (optional) Moose Mane Eyes: Bead Chain Body: slf, sow scud, etc. Dubbing Flash: Chartreuse Krystal Flash Wing: Puglisi 3D Fibers Colors dictated by water conditions I like tans, olives, chart. mostly Tie in bead chain at rear of hook, tie in moose mane
Prepare dubbing loop and spin dubbing to create a brush
Spin dubbing brush forward towards eye of hook
Attcah two strands of flash and tie in wing (cut ends so they pass eye)
Whip finish, use marker to bar wing
