Try fishing the tide (moving), and the Lunar cycle for the best times, (major & minor bite times). The snook here actually get so picky that you have to use the lunar cycle to help catch them. I've actually seen them turn on, right on cue. Can't hurt to try it LOL.

Good luck.

Mike

agreeing with what has already been said by the other posts i would also say your presence. if you dont let the fish see you than you have a better chance. i usually get a good amount of space away from the light and then cast across and over the lights and bring it through. and to be honest usually the strike will come when the bait has fled out of and away from the light.

daiwa reels = complete success

Go to a fly shop and buy a couple flies that look like glass minnows or small shrimp. Tie one on your spinning real add a float, i prefer a non popping one. Make sure its just enough weight on the float to cast it, no need to go to heavy. Leave about 6 feet of line in between the fly and float then retrieve it slowly or just let it drift threw the lights with an occational twitch here and there. Works awesome! Hope this helps.

More good advise, one thing you'll usually find is, the larger snook will be in the dark, just outside the shadow line. The smaller ones in the light. Play hard to get with em, can't hurt, it always worked for me. I love using a white zulu by strike king, slow twitching along the shadow line on top. Distance is a definite plus, if you see them, they have already seen you. Make sure to put the bait in front of them not behind them, no real baitfish is going to bully a snook from behind LOL, watch the tide direction and you'll know which way they're facing (up current). You probably know all this already but sometimes we forget the fundamentals, but without them, you're only fishing, not catching LOL.

Good luck,

Mike

A good rule of thumb is if the current isn't moving they're not gonna eat anything you throw at them, also don't bombard them, if the don't eat after 3 or 4 casts move on.  Try a live shrimp, mullet, or whitebait.  I have the best luck using live baits, throw past the light and slowly pull the bait into the light, if you don't get blown up on on the first cast move on, I rarely get a fish on the second cast if none are interested, one of the most intertaining things about fishing a live mullet is watching the snook chase it domn and inhale it.  For arties, try a 5.5in doa jerkbait in pearl or glow/goldrush on a 5/0 worm hook with no weight skipp it way under the dock and twitch it slowly out, a fish will normally hit it the second it comes out from under the dock so use a stout rod so you can pull him away.  Other good baits are mirrominnow and doa shrimp, for the shrimp cast uppcurrent of the light and let it swing in the current don't work it at all just keep the line tight and hold on!

if you fly fish use an 8wt rod with floating line with a 40lb shock and bite tippet and 12lb class tippet, for a fly a gummy minno or schiminnow does the trick, I've hooked larger slot fish on a black or white clouser with heavy eyes to get it down.  The rule with snook in the lights is generally if you hook em' deep it should be a decent fish.
