| | When re-spooling your reel with power pro is it nescessary to put mono on first? Like 2 yards or so.... I put some 20 lb power pro on and when the reel got wet the power pro would spin... i was like checking my drag and the the line was spinning individually on the reel. Did i not spool it tight enough or should i just put a mono backing at the beginning? this is really hard to explain, hope it makes sence. |

| yes, always at least cover the spool about 2 times with mono then put the power pro on, if you don't the pp won't grip the spool and will spin

| i always put 50 yards of mono on a 2500-4000, and anything bigger than that i put 75 yards of mono, it seems like alot but you will never get to the mono unless you lose a lot of line, and you save alot of money on braid

| | No you dont have to use mono first. You can use masking tape instead for backing. The main thing you want to do is eliminate the braid from slipping on the spool. The other thing is you can back the spool and eliminate haveing to fill the spool with more than enough braid.

| I agree with Spyder. You do not need mono if you use something like tape in it's place.
I use small reels (2000 & 2500 series) and use a strip of duck tape around the spool before putting the Power Pro on. It gives something for the line to bite into and keep it from free spinning on the spool. This allows me to put more line on the small spools. If you do this on bigger reels, it can actually be a waste because you'll never use that much line even on a long run. Having more line on the reel is also an added expense.

| If the spool does not have holes, I will wrap a few layers of electrical tape on the spool first. Fills up the space and gives the braid traction.

| | The newest spools of power pro actually include a strip of a special adhesive tape to back the line with to solve this problem, however, all that has been mentioned will work fine. I use the mono technique currently and actually only put on enough mono to cover the inner metal of the spool one time. It does not take alot of anything to do the job but you must do something. Like any awesome weapon, it has to be used properly to work correctly.

| YES!!! The mono will PROTECT your spool and provide a STRONG backing.
