| I am looking for a polling platform to put on the back of my 16' carolina skiff. I was looking into having one built but the costs are well out of the range i was hoping. (avg $700) I was currious if anyone has ever built or known someone who has built their own platform. I know people who know how to weld so i was thinking i could create something any help would be great. Thank you

| | Even if you have all the aluminum pre cut and most fab is already done, its still going to cost your pretty penni. Aluminum welding going rate is anywhere from $50 to $65 an hour lately and it will add up very quickly. The thing to do is call around and get some quotes for just the welding and if you have them build it from scratch. Good luck

| | Hey, check with Chumhead, he used to have a really good used one for sale that just needed to be repaired. If he still has it, it would be the best way to go. Just an idea. Mike :o)

| | Mike emailed me about this post, but I already gave my old platform to LT when we had the Steinhatchee Bash. I don't know if he or one of his friends were ever able to use it. It had one weld that needed to be repaired.....you might want to PM L.T. ( forum name FlatsKracker ) and see if he was ever able to use it, or might still have it and doens't need it. Good luck from a fellow Carolina Skiffer...... chumhead

| | LOL knowphish! Chum, that platform would've been a great addition to any boat even mine, but I wasn't in any shape to fix it and mount it to the boat. Even if I had a brand new one today, I wouldn't be able to mount it, and it looks like I'll be selling it this year anyway because it needs repairs that I am not allowed to make (Doctors orders) so rather than letting it sit and let time have it's way with her, I'll sell it to someone who can make the repairs, I'll miss it, but there's nothing else I can do, besides I can learn to fish from shore again LOL. Thanks for responding though, I hope he finds one, or a way to make one. Later guys, Mike :o)

| i built my platform on my 14ft jon boat, its bout 3ft in off the highest walls on my boat. works real good, don't move on me, lots of space and rod storage, and it costs me about 50$. it wieghs about 20 pounds, then add the plywood top about 40. i made mine out of aluminum conduit, 4$ for a 10ft section, get a few, a pipe bender and have at it. i have mine bent all crazy for strenght, but it looks good. i bent it 2ft up the first part, did a 45 degree, went 1ft 3inches more, bent it again at a 45, flattened out for a 2ft wide flat part for the deck and did the same on the other side. i made 3 of these pipes, 2 woulda done it, but i wanted extra strenght. to go across toward the back, i bent a pipe that i could attach to my transom, that went forward and was bolted to the others. its very hard to explain, but a nice simple design. then to attach to the boat, use pipe clamps screwed into the sidewal of the boat. it'll hold in place and its removable. i'll post pictures once i get my camera back. it actually looks good. i had 3 ppl standing on it to test it once, dide not budge.

| | Hey, I'd like to see some pics of that. Thanks for the info on the "how to" We all need to learn to get creative, especially with the outragous prices for marine products. Mike :o)
