(please note this info is 2 weeks old, just been too busy working and fishing to share right away)

Wed 31 May

I finally got myself a nice kayak, and she was christened with beer and baptised with spanish mackerel blood. The kayak is an Ocean Kayak Ambush, it is stable and definatly worth it. The trip I took was just off the Cape Point, here on Cape Hatteras, I was about 3-600 yards out and just elbow deep in nice Spanish. Of the 9 that came in with me, 4 were in the 2-3 pound group, 4 were in the 3 1/2-4 pound group, and the best was a 6 1/4 pound NC Citation fish! The whole expierience now has me very stoked for this newly found form of fishing(for me). I do thank all of those members out there who gave me yak advice in the past, for all of it was valuable for the selection process. Now I am looking to see just what can be caught just out of  surf casting range and further. On another note, as for the fish who willingly sacrificed themselves for fresh spanish mack dinners, please know that the love was spread out to include the beach fishfry, and an older woman here whos husband passed away last year and doesn't really fish herself but enjoys fresh fish. Todays ugly weather kept me inside so I decided that I would share this story with all, that and the fact that after 15 years of fishing for them,  I finally got a citation sized Spanish Mackerel. Thank You for listening.

way to go sarge!
now lets see some pics of you hooked up with some of those cobias in the kayak! LOL oceanic kayak fishing is becoming more and more popular. there's people in the pacific catching sailfish and marlin, friends in the gulf catching 150 lb tarpon, and others fishing the atlantic catching kingfish and dolphin. enjoy the new found freedom. just be smart about being on the high seas in a small boat.

Well, I do keep things safe, the kayak is trolling motor powered(I know I'm a cheater), it is accually a duck hunting kayak, and paddles are kept for back-up inside. I carry a cell phone with me, and get surprisingly good reception. I don't wander out with thunder storms around. My next big dollar purchase will be a GPS unit. On the water you are only as safe as you keep yourself, I like to be pleanty safe. I will soon have pics of the yak in action, but the cobia part is a little hard. I only had one come up to me 2 weeks ago and I wasn't ready. Now I don't see them at all. . . go figure. Until then, I will be expanding my realm of fishing to it's extream!
