| The Bay Area Canoe, Kayak club held their monthly outing at E.G. Simmons park the weekend of December 1st. On Saturday, the Sheriff Youth Ranch brought six young ladies to join us for a day of kayak fishing. These girls have been fishing the lakes located on the grounds of the living facilities in Bartow, FL and have been doing quite well with catching big bass.
The morning was a bit on the chilly side but the ladies showed up prepared for a day on the water. They brought a couple of fishing rods that they were planning on sharing for the day. B.A.C,K member, Jeff Harrell, works with the Youth Ranch and organized the outing. Jeff introduced the girls and had a few words for everyone. Roger Bouchard, president of the Youth Ranch, gave his words of appreciation. After all the speeches and “thank you” addresses, Jeff finally announced to the girls that they were getting a new rod and a tackle box full of goodies. The looks on their faces was priceless! It was like Christmas Day had come early.

One of the B.A.C,K. members, Terry Wilson, bought each girl a brand new rod & reel combo. Sharon and I put together individual tackle boxes filled with CAL bodies and jig heads from our own stockpile. David Blackwell from DOA Lures sent Deadly Combos and a DOA visors for each of the girls. Neil Taylor, a fellow kayak guide, pitched in some baits by Producto to complete the kit.

The boats were launched and after a few moments of bumper boats, they soon got the hang of paddling. They followed Jeff to the first stop and they all anchored around a hole. It was not long before one of the girls prematurely dismounted. Luckily the water was not very cold and the sun had started beaming down to warm the air. They all got a good laugh out of it and she got right back in the seat and started fishing like nothing happened.

By the end of the day, almost everyone caught some trout and a snook was also caught. A couple of the girls ended up in the water but this time it was on purpose. We came back in for a shore lunch that was prepared by a few of the club members. It was time to say good-bye to our young visitors and there was no doubt that they all had a great time. It was hard to tell who had more fun, the kids or the adults.

| It looks like everyone had a great time. There's not to many people out there any more that give back to the community like you guys did. Its nice to know there are still good people out there that take the time out of there lives to bring a smile to some youth anglers. Great job Mark.
