| | There is half a dozen that are more popular than others, its a lot about personal opinion. Redfish, Tarpon, Prowler, Tempo (probably forgot a few) are among the most popular and if you speak to an owner of any one of these that person is likely to say it it better than the others for 1 reason or another. There are older models, ScupperPro, Dolphin, Bimini.. that are also very good yaks for that style of fishing. Paddle a few, most reputable outfitters have demos, demo days, and/or rentals. Some have built in rod holders, but can you easily reach them and are they out of the way for your style of casting. Used you may find add on rod holders, anchor trolley setups, paddle keeper straps, or a rudder.. add ons cost money. I personally have a Scupper Pro and love it, but would likely be happy with a Tarpon or Redfish. Was shopping used and it came along first. Used to have a garage sale Mainstream Renegade, had it 2 years, and looking back I caught as many fish from it as the S-Pro, but my arse was a little wetter, I carried a little less stuff, and it did not take to rough conditions as well got swamped by an errant boat wake or wave more than once, although I never once dumped it. I've dumped the S-Pro twice both time reaching for some of that extra stuff I can now carry. You just have to find one you like and go for it. If budget is an issue look used, you'll save a few bucks if you shop around but you may also get rigging that does not suit your needs. |

| | I agree with the above post. Head to a good kayak shop and test ride in the top brands.... I like the Wilderness Systems and Ocean Kayak brands.....I own one of both. I have friends that own the Heritage brands and they love those also. Narc |
