I need your advice on a reasonably priced light tackle salt water spinning reel that needs minimal cleaning. Also, I've been using my regular spinning reel and I end up having to take the whole reel apart after every use to clean and oil it or it doesn't work. Is this normal?? Are there any easy ways to clean a reel???

It sounds like a problem i never have to take my reel apart every time i come from a fishing trip i clean my reels once a month and they are good to go.Try taking off your the top off and spray rim oil its used to clean guns but it works very well on reels and also  unscrew the reel handle and spray there to.hope this helps your reels.

If you want a reasonably priced fully sealed saltwater reel you can't beat the Cabelas Salt Striker Metal Spinning Reel. They are on sale right now and are nice reels. They are way under-priced for the quality they are.

For nice sealed saltwater reels all they need is a rinse after each use and a break down cleaning every so often depending on how much you use them

When I first started saltwater fishing I used my freshwater reels, they all ended up locking up after a while even after I rinsed them after every use.

In saltwater equipment, you get what you pay for...except for the salt striker, you get way more!

Hope this helps!

I`ve been breaking down Reel`s sence I was a kid,and Spinning Reel`s has to be the easiest to service of them all, some of the Bait-Runner`s can get tricky, and Bait-Caster`s are not for beginers.

I would suggest a Cheaper Reel to start stripping down, and learning how it works inside......take it completely apart, lay each part out on the bench,in the order you take it off, almost all Spinning Reel`s are the same inside,so if you can do one,you can do just about all of them

As far as Low Maintainance,I must say Shimano "S" Body`s have it there...at around $100.00.There are plenty of Cheaper Reel`s that will work fine for ya,but if it`s not a sealed unit, you will be going inside to keep it alive and kicking......I have an ole Cardnial {$12.00 Reel}it`s been going strong now 7 year`s,super smooth drag,it has the gut`s from an old Quantum reel in it,and the handle from an Eagle Claw...A REEL Mutant, but it`s a Great Reel now....so if you buy cheap, get two, you`ll need extra parts later

Good Luck

basicly any reel will hold up to salt water as long as you wrinse* it off when your done...I've had stradics and cabos and as long as i wrinse* them off when i'm done useing them they hold up just fine...but if your lazy go with the cabo...lol
