Man im so jealous, i went out with nothing but the fly rod and my wading shoes for three days last week. I had reds(poor man's bonefish) all around me the whole time, and wasn't able to get one. I need a lesson bad, its only been a month or so but all i can get to hit are ladyfish. Any begginer basics i may need to hear?

hard to say without seeing you cast...hopefully your line weight is matched to the rod weight...also WF line is a must...use leader at least 9ft...PRACTICE...you gotta force yourself to get confidence...dont take any other rods only flyrods...if you ever make it this way I will help you out

SA Mastery Refish taper line wf8-f with my 8wt 9' rod. I went out this morning and had one on briefly with a homemade spoonfly i made. However, as soon as my line came tight, one of my knots failed in the leader that i had mad. Ah well, i consider it progress and the mistake wont be made again.

One problem that i corrected this monring was that i was trying to shoot my line after i had been walking and letting the line trail behind me. This was creating extra drag on my line by having it sink behind me etc. By pulling the line up to me it gave me a better shoot, but im still making at least 2 false casts. I'm just not getting the line speed i would like, i want to blame it on the fast action of my rod as the reason im not getting it to load well, but im sure its my technique.

yeah..gotta keep the line in front or even in a stripping basket...I just hold it myself...you will need to learn the dbl haul...this significantly increases the line speed....I personally use one backcast no matter what and shoot the entire cast from that...silicon spray and/or cleaner/line dressing will help a lot too...plus it kinda helps prolong the life of the line

Is their a brand of spray or dressing you reccomend. I have just been using warm soapy(very dilluted) water. As far as my double haul, i have no problem holding 50-60' of line off the water, but like i said its taking a few casts. ! backcast..... thats pretty awesome, how much line do you keep on the water, i know part of my problem is a tend to strip in almmost to my leader, and i tend to cast 1-2 times just to get the WF part of my line out.
