Well I have been pretty silent about my kayak advantures. Mainly because I am still figuring this whole thing out (especially picture taking) and the areas I am fishing are all brand new. I figured there was no need to take a specialized craft like a kayak to the same areas I have been catching fish in my boat.

I have been frequenting and catching fish in a pretty much secluded flat off the ICWW in northeast Florida. The flat runs a long way and I have not even begun to explore all the options of this area. Flounder are easy to come by with any jig or shrimp imitation you bump the bottom with.

I finally feel like I got a good  handle on the reds in this area as well. Last weekend I must have caught almost a dozen pitching one of my new go to lures (the mirrodine).

I will try to get some pics soon and maybe a video. So many places to fish, so little time.

I once had a bad day of fishing, but it was still great!

Matt! Whats wrong with you. This report sucks. Its a far cry from the quality reports you usually post. Wake up and smell the fish slime!

I guess in your mind kayaks are not worth quality reports.

Wow - well the pretty much secluded, and size of the flats comments made me think of it. (Other thought was around Sister's Creek on north side of the St. Johns near Mayport.)

One of my favorite spots. Huge area. Sometimes put in at Faver-Dykes State Park and paddle down Pellicer creek to the flats, sometimes put in at Bing's Landing. Been looking at places along the road near Marineland to just slide into the ICWW.

Another favorite near there is the highway 206 bridge at Crescent Beach. Great parking and launching spot on the west side of the bridge. Then lots of flats going north and south from the bridge. North a mile or so is Moses Creek which is always productive. Just watch the tides if you go there. Lots of water in the creek, but you could come out at low tide and be looking at a mile of mud between you and the ICW.

Yup, that is my east coast stompin ground but mainly in my boat so the kayak is opening up new possibilities. I am very unfamiliar with the areas way off the ICWW because this is the first time I can actually reach them. It is just awesome seeing the new sites.

Looks like I will be there tomorrow. If you are heading south on A1A beaches, go over the inlet at rattlesnake island and before you get to marineland there is a bridge. The ICWW is right next to the road there and you can just park on the side and dump in their.

Have you had any luck at the Pellicer flats down there closer to Bings?

Hope you had good luck this morning - just saw this - and I couldn't get out anyway.

I am going to try sliding in off A1A as you have been doing.

I usually end up paddling all the way to the where the creek joins the ICW anyway. There are some oyster mounds and lots of flats behind them down towards Bing's, but I think the flats just behind Marineland on the Pellicer creek side are more productive.

Bing's is a great free facility, but it leaves a three mile paddle to get to the creek flats with lots of big boat wakes to watch out for.
