| They were biting but none were landed. The score was 0-2. Jeff and I had our butts handed to us today! I just wish I had gotten a shot of Jeff when he first hooked up. Having a huge shark flying through the air, spinning with his mouth wide open, heading straight towards the guy in the kayak that has him hooked has got to be the greatest thing I have ever seen on the water! I have another shot of Jeff but I don't think he would appreciate me posting it.

| Had a good day out around the skyway. Mark and I set off in search of bait while Sharon and her brother went fishing. Well fish were biting but anything bait worthy was hard to find. I did find all the dink trout I could ever ask for but no ladyfish. After hours of searching Mark finally managed to land one after several failed attempts.
Off we were to a nice trough and with half a ladyfish on the hook we were in for a wait. Turned out I didn't have to wait long.
The current was moving out and eventually I noticed my bait was moving up current. I took the rod out of the holder and reeled in a little slack. I felt something strong on the other side. I gave a shout to mark to look for the fun to begin. At this moment the slack went tight, the circle hook sunk into the corner of the mouth, and the fight was on. The shark turned towards me and jumped out of the water. Out from the depths came a grey and white bullet spinning like a perfect john elway pass. It hit the water and got everyone's attention. The second jump really got my attention. It had closed half the distance between us and was still coming directly at me. At this point I felt like a very large chunk of meat in a very small boat. My eyes started searching for my knife and thoughts of cutting the line were in the head. The other thought in the head was an image of a large shark landing in my lap spinning around and thrashing with all that muscle and TEETH! My fears were soon proven to be false as the shark swam by and made a beeline towards mark. I gave another shout to him to paddle since my line was over the back end of his kayak.
I was able to pull anchor and soon found my kayak on plane as I was dragged with the wind out into open waters. I didn't care for that but the shark was slowing and I was getting some line back. Let me add a side note that I have never heard drag pulled like this. WOW!!! (Music brotha, MUSIC!!!)
The shark went over a sandbar and I was able to get a good look at a very dark and menacing shadow. The adrenaline was pumping and I was really getting closer to the shark. Then tragedy strikes as this monster of the deep decides that it had enough and chews through my 40lb steel leader.
The hands were shaking and I just couldn't stop thinking about the power. Wow!!! I think its time to build a quality rod for the big guys!

| The fish I had on towed me around for close to 30 minutes and I never saw what it was! I was able to reel myself right over top of it but between the rod, being in a kayak, and fear of tackle failure, I wasn't able to lift it. Every time I started to bring it up it started running again. I had a mono to Powerpro knot that kept running through the guides during the tug-o-war and it finally weakened and gave way. Not being able to see even a shadow or what I was wrestling, we could only speculate what it was by the way it bit, pulled, and the weight I could not lift, a huge ray, big nurse shark, or Goliath grouper seem to be likely suspects.
