I decided to play with my redfish magic for a while, and learn how to work it. So far...nada!

I am using the white paddletail that came on the lure. I wonder, first off, if I should switch to a different color?

Next, for those who use this, how do you suggest I work it, and under what conditions? Both from shore, and from kayak.

Thanks

I replace the stock plastic with either a "Slurp" grub in good penny or a Gulp mullet. Make sure you retrieve it slow. When the puffers are on the attack I will use the stock bait because it stretches so well and lasts longer. The spinner bait should work and I have caught reds and trout on it but not as many as one would think.

Thanks for that, Tom.

Another question I had was about how to tie it on.

I used the canoeman knot, and it was pretty apparent that that was a bad choice. It seems like the palomar would be a pain in the tail to tie on.

What would be the best way to tie this to my line?

i like it ok i use a Gulp shrimp instead of the stock bait......i tie a Pitzten knot but an improved clinched would do.....i like it for trout around docks let it drop then bring it up and let drop and they always hit it while the are dropping.... when it's flats i use a steady retrive i get lots of hits but not as many hookups....it's kinda fun to use with a baitcaster outfit tho feel like a bass guy lol

Replace stock grub with a DOA CAL electric chicken and slow down your retrieve. Also try bouncing it off the bottom. It's worked for me many times.

I totally love the redfish magic and it is what I tie on the lines of kids I bring fishing when I want them to catch reds.  I use the metalflake rootbeer color as it come from the package and when they get worn out, I put on the same color doa cal.  I fish the big bend of the gulf coast and the reds seem to love the spinner.  I tell people to cast it out and reel as slow as they can while feeling the blade vibrate.  If you have ever fished for bass with a spinner you know the feeling.

Trout, reds flounder and ever mackeral seem to love this bait.  Put some lunker sauce (gel) on it if you really want to sport it up.

If man could be crossed with the cat, it would improve man but deteriorate the cat.

I used the redfish magic for the first time today on mosquito lagoon and thats the best bait ive used out there to catch reds! In the first 15 minutes that i was fishing i caught 2 redfish and a flounder with the redfish magic, my friend was fishing with a D.O.A. C.A.L. and didnt catch anything all day! Its very easy to fish, just keep the rod tip high and reel at a constant speed and youll catch fish!
