I have Flatskracker`s 18' Flatsboat over here for a Major Electrical Refit,he has recently installed a Polling Platform, and wants to clean up the Front Deck,so we have Two Question`s :

#1. Does the Anchor Light have to be Higher than the Polling Platform ?

#2. Kracker has a Nav Light on the Front Deck......I know because I`ve broken my Toe on the darn thing ..... Can I install a Red and a Green Light to the Top-Front of the Center Consoule, and get rid of that Toe Buster ?

That`s for the Anchor Light I take it.....So it needs to be the highest point

Now I need to know about the Nav Light or Light`s.........

Do they have to be near the Bow,or can I mount  Red and Green light`s to the Center Consoule for Nav Light`s ?

Thanks Ron

Anchor light is supposed to be the highest point on the craft. Will get back with you on the navs. I know the larger boats have them on the sides of the cabin.

Power vessels less than 39ft. must have the nav lights at the bow. I really like the new style with them recessed in the hull below the gunwale. Like shark's eyes.

Finally found somethng on it !

"Sidelights" means a green light on the starboard side and a red light on the port side each showing an unbroken light over an arc of the horizon of 112.5 degrees and so fixed as to show the light from right ahead to 22.5 degrees abaft the beam on its respective side. In a vessel of less than 20 meters in length the sidelights may be combined in one lantern carried on the fore and aft centerline of the vessel, except that on a vessel of less than 12 meters in length the sidelights when combined in one lantern shall be placed as nearly as practicable to the fore and aft centerline of the vessel. [Inld]

(c)     "Sternlight" means a white light placed as nearly as practicable at the stern showing an unbroken light over an arc of the horizon of 135 degrees and so fixed as to show the light 67.5 degrees from right aft on each side of the vessel.

In my definition then ...the stern light can stay in the same place as it was from the factory..and the nav lights can be placed on either side at the front edge of the console

I-Eye Captain

This stuff can be changed fairly quick and easy at any time after the Ticket,at that point there will be No Doubt where they go

One says less than X amount of Length has to be mounted on the Bow....the other say`s that it must be foward of Center-Line of boat......Let`s flip a Quarter........Sence you own the boat Kracker,we`ll do it the way you want, and we`ll save the Old Nav Light, the wires are ran to the Bow already,we`ll just turn that into a Stow Light for now,and rig the Two Nav lights in the Consoule Face. As for the Anchor Light,I`ll mount it where the Old one is,but I`ll leave the Wires Long, then you can take out the two screw`s,pull out some more wire, and strap it to the Leg of the Polling Platform, where the light will be over the top of the platform, until you can get back to the ramp...........No Problem

Thanks everyone

Heck LT the sun goes down way after your bedtime these days. You don't even need lights! Now my yak will soon be getting a set of them as I plan to do some night dock fishing soon!
