Chainsaw,

Yes the Heritage Redfish is a great choice. I have the 14' Redfish and love it. I cant sit down and fish, so while Im fishing Im standing up. I dont have any problems, its very stable. I can cast, set the hook, and reel a fish in all while standing up. But If your really looking for stability, go with the Heritage Redfish 12'. Ive heard the Heritage Redfish 12' is more stable than the Redfish 14'.

I would have thought that the 12 ft'er would be less stable! Is the 12ft'er the same width as the Redfish? I would think that that would make it real stable.

How about rod holders for fly rods?

scotty makes fly holders that work very well... also the spinning rod holders will hold a fly rod securely if you put it in there right...

chainsaw,

Yes the 12' Redfish is more stable. Scotty makes fly rodholders that you could get for your yak, and the Heritage comes with 2 rodholders already, but I dont know if theyd be good for fly rods. The 12' is 30" wide, and I think the 14' is not as wide, not sure the excat measurement . Good luck with your choice.

Before anyone starts this sport, they should read up on it a bit ...

Hey MangroveFisherman - here's the original picture of that boat (MY boat) taken at Pass-A-Grille a few years back ...

That same boat with a big redfish tied to the other end ...

The end result ... note the hat ...

And remember, It ain't always about the fishing ...

My current ride - Malibu Pro Explorer ...

Plenty of storage for "things" ...

When I fish from the plastic boat I take 1 (one) frosty cold Corona.  I call it either my "victory" beer, or my "consolation" beer.  I love a frosty cold aduly beverage (FCAB) as much as anyone else, but blasting them down all day it's not the thing to do while paddling.

Both are VERY stable boats.  The Malibu is a little shorter but weighs about the same as the Fisherman.  The Malibu Pro Explorer tank well won't accept a standard milk crate.  That's a negative for me, because I like to keep most of my toys in there.  So, I just use a 5 gallon bucket, which slips right into the indent of the tank well, and throw all my stuff in there.

You're not hefty if you're like me.  You're build like a sports car ... wide and low to the ground.     I don't stand in kayaks - just isn't my thing, unlike CooKnFish, who can stand in anything that floats.  But, this boat was previously owned by a dealer, and he routinely stood in it.

Just to give you an idea of how to stand up in a kayak, here's some video I took of that guy (Paul @ Masthead Enterprises) standing in the Emotion Mojo.  This was the first time he'd ever paddled it, let alone tried to stand in it.

... and a couple of other videos ..

Well, Diane and I will soon join the "tupperware navy". Just ordered a matching pair of yaks. Duck, y'all, 'cause the questions are going to come hard and heavy such as:

Best carrier for an F-150

Best places to buy accessories

What are the essentials other than the yak, the paddle and life vest.

Any other tips and tricks

I can't wait to get 'em in the water!!

Mike
