Thats why they don't make them anymore. But still a great little boat for creeks.

The tailfisher replaced the pathfinder. I looked at it but it is a heavy hull for the size. You loose bouancy with the tunnel, so you need a light hull or it will only run in shallow water, it won't float in it.

I have looked at almost every poling skiff out there now. I hope I made the right decision.

RE: 168 Phantom stats

hey guys what about a 16' pathfinder tunnel hull with trim tabs and a 50 hp yamaha all the stories about draft are great but i truley on a regular basis see this boat of my friends get onto a plane in 12" to 13" of water and run in as little as 8" these are real!!!!!!!! numbers it is freaking amazing what a small light tunnel hull will do

RE: 168 Phantom stats

Nah, B1 is the original version before B2.. Almost the same other than some minor hull changes and some better finishing on the B2... B1 actually floats shallower.. I'm having a blast with it and you can buy them @ the right price now. :))

Floats and runs in 5" np w/ out a jackplate because it has a nice raised transom. killer boat for the money. I bought mine in mint condition other than a few scratches on the bottom of hull. This pic below is not my boat but similar.. mine has a black sea deck...

http://boatstore.floridasportsman.com/cgi-bin/cl.pl_bo?boatflat&1168744169

Theres room on the back..however I just fish fom the platform.. the Tiller version is called barebones.

RE: 168 Phantom stats

The B1 the tiller right ?

Do yo have room to fish behind the poling platform ?

Have you tried it in a good size chop?

I have a place in Chokoloskee, and I run south to lostmen river on the out side.I hope its good, I have done it in a Hells Bay and it was good enough.

Let me know.

RE: 168 Phantom stats

I actually just picked up a B1 2 days ago.. The 16 is like 4 or 5 months I think. That was about a month ago.

I'm still a huge fan of the B2 though after taking a ride and poling one. The electrical is soooooo clean too. I'm in the same "boat" as you ( no pun intended :w00t: ) and it will either be the b2 or waterman 16' side console. I like the phantom 16 but my local rep (Mosquito Lagoon Outfitters) is quoting me around 30K fully rigged(not including tax).

The b2 is around 23k out the door (tax everything) .. These prices are with power pole, trim tabs, jack plate and trolling motor package. And the waterman is about 1500 to 2k more than b2, but for the 16' version.. B2 is 17' 9"

http://www.beavertailskiffs.com/specs.html
RE: 168 Phantom stats

I've thought about the 183 Ghost, but that's pushing around 10" of draft. I'm looking for something a little more skinny.....somewhere in the 6" area. Gordon are nice boats, but that's at least a year build time (last I checked). So, that still leaves me with ECC Lostmen, Beavertail B2 or Ranger 163 Phantom.

As much fun as boat shopping is...it's torture to make a final decision!!

RE: 168 Phantom stats

Have you checked out the new Ranger 183 Ghost. . .it's one of the hottest boat on the tournament circuits. It can get up and run and floats shallow, too!

RE: 168 Phantom stats

http://www.beavertailskiffs.com

B2 is nice as well. Many loved the B1 and this one is even better. Same hellsbay type hull as the Gordon waterman only less expensive. 8 wk build time.

RE: 168 Phantom stats

Fishin, I've looked at gordon's website. They are definitely something to look at. Right now, I'm looking at Gordon, Ranger (phantom) and East Cape Canoe (no particular order). I have list going of positives and negatives for each so I'm still undecided. It's not an easy decision in the least. One of the biggest negatives for the phantom is its 16.5' compared to 18' for either of the others. If there's 3 of us in the boat, that extra 1.5' is nice to have.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Please keep them coming.

RE: 168 Phantom stats

you might want to check out gordon boats the make a 16 and 18 foot skiff that both have a 6 inch or less draft.they are also very affordable too.

RE: 168 Phantom stats

Get the banshee or the phantom;)
One of them will be my next boat.

Lots of them at the FLW Cham-peen-chips (banshee)

sweeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!!!!:D

Oh, this is a Ranger Only site:)

RE: 168 Phantom stats

Check out Lagoon Boats rs15, 15ft very wide very stable. I can get in 6-8 inches of water no problem with the boat fully loaded and two people. LagoonBoats.com they have several different boats out, custom built how you want it and a good price. They are a small company, very nice people, good fishable boat. I have had several people on it that now want one.

RE: 168 Phantom stats

look at the maverick hpx v or hpx t by www.maverickboats.com
or the lostman by www.eastcapecanoes.com

RE: 168 Phantom stats

Thanks for the info. I do like the Actioncraft boats, but they draw a little too much for me. Here in Savannah, the water can get pretty skinny. Some of my favorite places wouldn't take a 10"-12" draft boat.

Anyone out there run a East Cape Lostmen? Or maybe a Beavertail B2? I know these are skinny boats but I've not been around them as much as the Ranger line. Hoping someone has a history with either of them.

Thanks

RE: 168 Phantom stats

Phantom - Fully loaded: between 6" and 6-1/2".

Banshee Extreme - Fully loaded: between 5" and 5-1/2"

Banshee - fully loaded: between 4-1/2" and 5"

RE: 168 Phantom stats

My 1820 action craft with a 150 mercury optimax can get in about 10" of water fully loaded...ITs great, Halls @$$ ...... Please don't give me the story of "four inches if i have a dry gas tank and i'm standing on one leg, etc, etc." I need a true, real-life, ready-to-fish measurement. I'm looking at a couple of different boats and trying to get more "real life" info. Thanks.
