The slower you work these baits the better.:D

RE: How Do you fish a DOA Shrimp
irl jeff (8/6/2008)
the puffers r almost everywhere, except mosquito lagoon and the port.
LOL:hehe:, did you just say that the Puffers aren't in Mosquito Lagoon?:w00t: You must have typed that wrong, the puffer to reds percentage is 10 to 2 at the whale tail. They're everywhere, south side to the north end of the lagoon.

Anyways, you can use the shrimp pre rigged, through the nose with a circle or "J" hook, weightless for some top water action, weedless for the groves, or with a jig head and bounce them off the bottom. The weight will all depend on the depth of water your fishing.

As for the Puffers, its an expensive treat for a them, but you can do the ol' snip and splice trick. Save all of your cals, jerks, and shrimp that have chunks taken out of them and cut off the bad end with a good razor blade and piece them together with some super glue. You can get pretty funky with your color combinations. I like a watermelon/chart. combo myself.

RE: How Do you fish a DOA Shrimp

well around here in psj/titusville, they both tear em up, the pinfish ain't a worry till it gets hotter, but the puffers r almost everywhere, except mosquito lagoon and the port.

RE: How Do you fish a DOA Shrimp

in charlotte harbor you cant leave any artificial bait sittin for more than 3 minutes and the pinfish have your doa or gulp. we have 6 inch pinfish that hit our gulp and doa and you can catch them. we havent had a good redfish bite for 2 or 3 years and are pinfish are huge.

RE: How Do you fish a DOA Shrimp
irl jeff (8/4/2008)
be advised! workin it slow is best, but thats the easiest for puffers to get, those doa r not cheap, i barely use them cause the insane amount of puffers i find where i fish.
Puffers are area specific and do not really mess with us too much over here. The only thing I'd add is some Carolina Lunker Sauce Saltwater Pro Gel or Berkley Gulp Alive Spray Attractant. Both are priced around $7.25. Reds love extra smell and both of these products do just that to the DOA.

RE: How Do you fish a DOA Shrimp

i tried a doa shrimp be4 and still never caught anything. i use a 1/2 oz shrimp and cast it out pretty far but i guess the current just never lets it get to the bottom and i just see the bait come right back to me..

RE: How Do you fish a DOA Shrimp

i agree that is the same way i use it and get snook, reds, and trout

RE: How Do you fish a DOA Shrimp

i like to fish it slow like on doa's website and dvd says to i cast it out and let it settle to the bottom into the grass or structure usually with 1/4 oz shrimp this takes about 2 seconds for a foot of water then i pop it off the bottom with a slight pull from my rod then i reel in the slack about one to two turns then i let it settle back to the bottom and pull up again and again i like to fan cast from 9 oclock to 5 oclock or a clock wise fan cast that way i cover alot of water and dont cross line over fish in the area

How Do you fish a DOA Shrimp

I am looking to catch redfish and dont know how to fish it properly???
