yea cracker had the same problem in the port, the live pinfish fell into there faces, they would bump it with there nose and turn around, like 8ft from the boat. all those ron posts were mainly me, if u r wondering who i am, i am the kid that was with ron at kars fishin with ron on that lil tri hual boat with the custom platform. these snook were all in between pillings or boat bumpers on a bridge, so it is practically impossible to get em out on mono. thanks for the info on using small white baits. match the hatch. i'll do that next time, me and ron will prolly go for em, and by then my boat will be totally redone so everything will work fine, and my bait won't die as easy.

Just returned from another Ft.Pierce Jetty run......Lock-Jaw City :pinch:

We picked up 5 Dozen Silver Dollar sized Pin-Fish,there was NO SHRIMP in the city of Ft.Pierce :w00t:,and I couldn`t find any Finger Mullet to save my life :w00t:

Plenty of Large Snook Shadowing the White-Baits along the rock`s,but not eating them.......I had what looked to be a 20lb Female swim back and forth in front of me,I put a Pin in front of her,she would swim up to it,look,then swim away.....Not Once,but about 15 times,.....load`s of Big Snook all around the rock`s,No Feeding Frenzies,No Bait Pod`s other than the White-Bait`s around the Rock`s,and Poggies along the Beach.

I belive they are in a Pre-Spawn Mode,more interested in Sex than Food,but I also belive that they will be ready to get thier Freak-On with this next Full-Moon,then they will be ready to eat anything you put in front of them after that ;)

So stay close to them Ron,they are just about to go off :D

Glass minnows and small white bait are all over our area beaches and the snook are smashing them. Small white flies are working very well since their size is very similar to the bait. If use something slightly larger for spinning tackle, sometimes they won't eat it because it is a size issue.

Yes, in this case size does matter! LOL

What I finally had to do was to downsize to something that is very similar is size and color to the small glass minnows and whitebait.

The answer.......A 1/8 oz Spro Baby Bucktail! It is deadly and although small, the Gamakatsu hook is very sharp and strong. When the snook are keyed in on eating very small baits, white flies and white bucktails (for spinning guys) will get bites. I've used the Spro Prime bucktail in 1/4 and 3/8 oz sizes and have taken some nice snook with these larger sizes but the 1/8 oz size is working very well right now since it matches the size forage and color of the bait the fish are feeding on.

Ran into some lock jaws on the beach yesterday morning. They wanted no part of anything,yet same beach pretty much the same tide earlier in the week I caught up around 20,all under slot size but still fun.

Usually when they're locked up like that I can still manage to get a few but not yesterday,it was a bit strange but it happens,thats Snook for ya. They were just crusin in and around huge schools of glass minnows but not poppin any.

They typically feed on a moving tide facing into the current however; I have also caught my fair share during slack tide periods as well. There are a number of other additional factors which will dictate the bite as well. I religously use braid unless I am fishing for snook and sometimes scale down as far as 12# mono with a 20/30# Fluro leader contingent upon water clarity, temp, and other conditions. Snook can be very picky when they decide to dine. I have personally outfished others using croakers which are alleged "snook candy" while I was using shrimp. It has been my experience that snook can be tempermental about all baits however; seem to never turn down a nice shrimp. Dont get me wrong they do go through their lock jaw periods best bet is to wait it out and experiment with other baits. I hope this information is helpful.;)

Snook usually feed during the incoming tide because it stirs all of the baits fish around. They may also bite at the very beginning of the outgoing tide

ok, so i went fishin in port canaveral at 11pm to 4, i just got home. i tried to find snook, i found lots of snook, up to 40 pounds, i casted live pinfish upcurrent from them. nothin, they were just taunting me, 40 pounders lookin me in the eye. it was a falling tide, using 30pd power pro with a 50 pound florocarbon leader, no bites, down graded to 20, still nothin. my question is when do snook normally eat with tides? i have no clue, i fish the tideless north irl 24/7 so i know nothing about tides. any help would be appreciated.
