Out on blind pass on the jetty the ticket was was live shrimp rigged with a 1-2 oz weight to keep it on a slow drift on the botton for bonnet head sharks from 1 to about 3-4 feet. I was there for about 2 hours and landed 1 and saw about 10 others landed and a really big shark broken off on. By the bridge at Blind Pass there were good sheepshead and a few trout biting on shrimp with about 1 oz weight drifted by the pilings with a very light leader. At the causeway A span there were a few bonnet heads landed on shrimp with a weight and some nice sized sheepshead biting on shrimp and fidler crabs sent to the bottom. I managed to land me a nice one for dinner, about 15 inches and some other people caught a few bigger an smaller than mine. But once the tide slowed the bite shut off.

Anclote River

Monday: Fished deep holes with my roommate and hooked up with a flounder, trout, sea bass, squirrel fish, and a decent sized sheepshead.
Using the same setup as always:
2/0 owner hook and a split shot pinch weight
Shrimp hooked in the tail or head
Tuesday: The weather was supposed to be nasty, but took a shot anyways. With some shrimp we worked docks from 5pm until 7:30pm. I started the night off with a small trout. After fishing a few spots I went to a dock with some current and hooked up with a 13" sheepsie. Finally the cold got to us and we decided to paddle back in.
There are no pictures because once I got home my dad filleted my fish while I was in the shower:w00t:

While its cold:
Work docks hard with shrimp
2/0 hook with a pinch weight
Incoming tide with a nice current

I promised a fishing a report

Well to start off the fishing has been reely slow! I just bought a new setup and on top of that I just purchased a motorguide great white varimaxx trolling motor for my gheenoe. The thing hauls a$$!!

I put in the gheenoe with my girlfriend at about 3:30 p.m. right as the tide was switching to a outgoing. Every oyster bed and flat looked like a ghost town. Not even pinfish were roaming about. So I thought maybe some fish would be bundled up around some docks and I was right.
My girlfriend took the first cast and soon after she was hooked up to a sheepshead! It as about 13", but it looked as if a shark ate it and then spit it back out. The sheeps tail and pectoral fins were bit off and its flesh was mangled. I felt pretty bad for it, but it just goes to show how tough those convict fish are. We fished a couple more docks and missed a few fish and then trolled to a deep mangrove edge. I tossed out a shrimp and was hooked up. It fought hard and I thought for sure it was a redfish. It was not a redfish; however, it is related to them. It was a black drum, a fish I havn't caught in five years. I was pretty surprised. After that the sun was setting and we headed back to the ramp. Here is a picture of the black drum

Thanks for reading along,
B.B.
Tide: outgoing
Best bet: shrimp on split shot
Conditions: North wind 7 knots

1/21/2010 fishing report!

OK, so i went fishing with my buddy jake and well we caught nothing but bluegill! i showed him how to catch em with a small hook and bread. Before i knew it, he caught most of them and i only caught 2 after he caught the rest, hahaha!:w00t: I got a great load of bites but i need to re-learn to set the hook with weedless hooks!
I casted my Sebile magic swimmer soft and it bounced and it hit a branch, so i twitched it a little bit but i did it too hard and it flew up into a bigger branch 8 feet above the water... Well, my buddy jake goes and tries to get me it usin my pole by climbing the tree...as he got the hook into the eye of my guid, the lure fell into the water and i then thought it was a good idea to go into the water which was plainly reeeee tarrrrr deeeeeed! the water was some 50-60 degrees, and i walked bout 5 feet from the bank and it was literally 5 feet deep and getting wayyyyyyy deeper! Well, i wear these: when i go fishing/school/church-if i go...well, yea everywhere! Altama mil spec combat boots...with shorts, uhh OORAH!, anyways! they have a steel shank in the sole of the shoe so the broken glass wont go through, so i wore into the water...come to find out, lakes mayyy have pathogens like a virus that would looove to make its home...well, wants me as its home. i quickly realized why am i in there, and i got out cuz the lure was no where to be found!

After all that, i went and chilled by the park which is right next to the lake, and i saw a lady with her son and daughter. The son happend to be deaf but i did not know this at the time. He walked up to me as i was standing near Jake, and he drew a smiley face on my shirt/gut with his finger...his mom said he loves smiley faces and hes deaf, so its all cool. I thought it was a bit weird that a mom lets her son touch others, but eh hes deaf and hes hilarious and mommy dont seem affraid of us since im twice the size of her...(i get that a lot, i intimidate folks when i dont try). THENNNNN after they left, to make matters even more laaaaame, a car of 4 people rolled by slowly, round 4 pm so these high schoolers have nothing better to do, but to come and harrass me and Jake. They were goin bout 2-4 miles per hour, just reallllly slow, and they were giving us the finger and calling us names and i stood up from the swing and i looked at the car cuz their speakers SUUUUUCK and they just rattled and i had no clue whats going on. I get up and the passenger, front, looked at me and gave me the finger(telling me im #1 LMAO) and saying f you f you N***** F you B**** blah blah blah...i smiled/laughed and sat down...boy, what a day. first i lose my lure then i get harrassed by some retarded teenies who in reality would get beat down if they wanted to 4v2...

Thats my fishing story, sorry it took so long hahaha, i know its the end of feb/beginning of march :-)

25 Black Drum WOOHOO

Ya went out to my secret spot my dad and i caught 25 black drum friday night all keepers...I got pictures i gotta bring my camera into work download the pics..but im tellin yall use dead jumbo shrimp..the stinkier the better...

Georges Bar-9 Black Drum

went out to the spot..caught only 9 black drum this time..all 24in and over...georges bar..;)

Charleston,SC Fishing report, Thursday, Jan 14th 2010 (Pictures)

Charleston,SC ICW north of Charleston Harbor.
Water temp 43-44 degrees
Last part of outgoing low tide ,Partly cloudy, Air temp low 60's to high 50's.
We found the fish at the first area we went to. Anyone who lives near a freshwater lake knows that this is false. Today I went out on a kayak and had a great day of fishing. It all started at 6am when I relized that it was to windy to go offshore and evn though it has warmed up there is still no good inshore fishing so I went to a nearby lake. The day started out with a classic red worm and once that slowed down I switched to topwater popper. At about noon I switched to a spinnerbait. A great dayis still to be had. Let's just say I stopped counting fish at 30!!!!:D

NMZ 12-6-09

Let me start off by saying..........BRRRRRRRRRRR,I`m so glad I didn`t Underdress

Got to the launch late this morning....8-ish,but found we had the whole NE Corner to ourselfs......NOBODY in sight :w00t: . Wind was out of the SW,so we paddled out to the 5th Island from the east shore, and found the Flags a Flying
Many of them were Blacks in the 20lb range, but there was 1 that was pushing 50lbs that gave me at least 6 shot`s at it before I started looking for the Red Flags ;).....one pops up between me and Steve,he tossed a DOA Shrimp,I tossed a CAL......This one liked the CAL......

My First in the NMZ :D
The wind picked up,so we tucked in between the islands, and found this healthy Trout

Then the next cast found this Slot sitting on a corner

Then about 10:00am,the clouds rolled in,winds clocked around from the NE,and the fish shut down.....they were still tailing ,but every cast spooked em. They were still tailing when we left at Noon :w00t:

Paddled into the wind both ways, but LOVED EVERY MINUTE

Guess I need to take up the Long Rod for those Blacks :P

12 Black drum 1Hour!

Went out to titusville on saturday night with my young lady.We got there right at the tide change out going..bout 2 hours went by then bam reel started screamin..1st one was a nice 24 incher..soon as I re baited and dropped down it wasn't 30 seconds bam real screamin..woohoo..that happened bout 12 times in 1 hour..all black drum were right at 24in..a couple 30inchers..needless to say i got alot of fish to eat..:P

Sanibel 1/22/10

Almost all the snook died but there are still some nice trout to be caught in the mullet schools . You won't catch a lot but the ones that you do catch will be quality. You have to throw silver spoon right into the school and work it slow. The fish are very sluggish. There is no way you will catch any fish by working it fast. Live bait is another good option. However if you are using live bait in (bait fish) remember the fish are very sluggish and you should cut the tail off the baitfish. This will make a very short life for the baitfish and the bait should be changed every couple of minutes. If you have any extra bait chum up the water. Remember work it slow!:D

East Tampa Bay 12/30

Saw a bunch of these guys milling about with the sheepies today. Finding nothing out in the middle of the grass,I moved into the Sand Trouft next to the shore, bouncing my DOA CAL[Arkansas Glow] off the bottom, and I felt a Thump,Thump,ZZZZZZZ,followed by a 15 second head shake, then a long run, another long head shake.......Sweet Fight ;)
23 1/2" Mini-Gator

This was how far away Team fish4reds was from me when I caught that fish..

After releasing the trout,my next cast,I watched my jig go flying without my line:w00t:,so I told myself " That`s A Good Sign"....so I tied a fresh jig head and CAL on,and the next cast hardly hit the water before it came tight, and I knew this one was a Red by the blistering run.......another Sweet Fight
Two Handed Two Footer

Notice how Team fish4reds keeps closing the distance....LOL

So now the Smack Talk starts .......Yall can move ahead of me,my arms are getting tired...LOL.....I`ll just catch the ones back here..LOL........Then I catch a 20" Red from behind them, that was too hot to hold, and made a bouncing exit from my yak ;).....by now the guys are cutting me,trying to keep me from casting at all :P.....but I still catch another dink trout from behind them before we called it a day....made it back to the ramp about 3:30pm......Wore Slap Out !!!!!!!!

Oh,I almost forgot the biggest Red of the day........20lbs, I seen this Red Tailing in the Mangroves,so I snuck up on it,and landed it by Hand........

I had a great time Austin, thanks for letting me tag along......Now we need to get your Pic`s up :D
Cold weather fish kills

I have heard of massive fish kills in SW Florida. We managed a boat slam and were just a tarpon away from a grand slam. All fish were caught on DOA shrimp.

Chris with a nice IRL trout

Where we were fishing....reds are a little tougher to come by.....25 incher

One of several common and swordspine snook on the day......

Went in search of tarpon the best way possible.....but only saw a couple of rollers with no real shots.

A good end of the day pic with by best friend.....

inshore and off!

went out to north irl just outta hualover on no sleep. got out there, got out the canal and there were several reds, no sunlight to see em. kept spookin em. started cruising south toward grannys cove, found a single giant tailing red, chased him around, no nibble. went into grannys cove, nothing, got all the way to dummit, dead! cruised back noth, fished the front of grannys, found 3 schools of reds, no nibbles. kept goin back toward hualover to maybe find the reds just out the canal, they left. i said oh well, i got a job interview today anyway. bad day on the water

that night ron texted me at 2am. want to go offshore at 5, 3 hours away. left out the port at 5:45 with rons brother captian dusty, we were goin out to comercial fish kings. and then get sum cobias. we brought 2 rods. thats it. threw out handlines. we handlined 30 kings in 2 hours. then they died off and a giant ray came by the boat. we whipped 2 jigs at it! 2 cobia, one was short another just right for dinner. we cruised around tryin to get more kings, no luck so dustys boat is part of the seleveler fleet which rons brother own and run, so the sealeveler came out to help get the quota of kings. he got 10 for us and gave us 3 trolling rods. we had several triple hook ups and i caught a 30 pounder and 25 with ease. finished the day bout 4 with a nap on the ride in. a great day on the tight work. got worked by those biggins. total, 49 kings! 2 cobia and 4 little tunnies. no pics, didnt think bout it, was so tired to think when we left.

Thanksgiving Snook

This top slot fish ate a Ladyfish 1/3 it's size.

GladesGhost

"It only takes one"

the few fishin trips ive gone on

been to nmz, hualover, and peacocks, mixed results every time. ive mainly been on lil boats running a trollin motor with no engine. we never had sunny weather so sight casting never really happened. missed some snook, and reds. around grannys they were few and far between, peacocks was even worse, till we hit banana creek mouth. and nmz was dead till u hit the booster dock and those islands. i need to get a crows foot wrench to finish my motor!! its killing me seeing the river everyday at work and how calm it is!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i work at itailian courtyard in psj(i look at the window and all i see is river) and its been glass to very lite chop the past few weeks for the most part.

Troll & Poll canoe style 11-29-09

Headed out with PSJ Nick Sunday. We hit the WSEG ramp before the sun even thought about coming up and headed east. The winds were expected to be low so we headed for the troll and poll bouy's to fish the outer shoel. Once we got to the bouy line we started feeling for the bottom, after 30+ minutes of not locating the water we were looking for we headed for the islands.
Here's shot of the sunrise as we arrived at the troll and poll zone.

With the water level way high we stayed tight to the shore line and fished the cuts of the islands. Nick notice the wind pushing water out of one of the cuts and made a cast and hooked into a sweet trout and then another. By this piont I was gettting a little frustrated and cast my DOA cal into the mix of bait being busted and hooked up to a rat red that was all 15". Nick proceeded to hook up to another 20"+ trout and I think that spooked the rest of the fish so we moved on.
Here's one of the trout Nick caught...

With the water temp below freezing, so it seemed we had had a very had time finding fish and the ones we did find didn't have any interest in our baits. We spooked several reds on the east shore line and made several casts just to ignored, so we headed back to the clinkers.

We finshed off the day by fishing in and around the clinkers only to have Nick rub it my face a little more. He landed two more trout and a nice keeper red.

It was a good day on the water seeing how the air temp was in the 40's when we launched and the water was very high and extreamly cold.

Tally for the day:
Nick, 1 slot red and 4 slot trout and 1 over slot trout
Me, not so good, only one dink red to show for the day.

Sorry no shot of the reds, tried an action shot of mine in the water while Nick was hooked up and it just did't turn out.

drum hittin hard titusville/oakhill

Went out to riverbreeze lauched went to a hole close to the boat ramp..caught 10 12in sheepshead..10 snapper all legal..a 2 24in blackdrums..a whole bunch of pig fish all eating size..needless to say im full if fish..caught a couple over sized black drums to..

Snook in the am!

Caught this bad boy at 5 in the morning on a free lined jumbo sshrimp :D He measured 30 inches and the first keeper snook of my season. Met up with another fishing buddy who was already there and waiting on us in his new Boston Whaler Outrage. With new shrimp nets in the boat, some live bait, and 4 rods we headed to the west side of the canal and anchored up. After setting out the lights I decided to turn on the fish finder. Wow, marking fish like crazy. I decided to bait up and threw a line out onto the flats and one into the canal. Oh, by way...didn't see one shrimp as of yet. Around 7:00 P.M. I broke out the Subway subs and started to eat dinner. With a beer in one hand and a sub in the other (it never fails) the line out on the flats went off. It didn't take line like a red so I didn't bother with. I was eating, lol. Well, after I finished I reeled in the fish. Not too shabby. It was a fat trout that ate a live mullet and I mean he ate it all. When I tried to see where the hook was all I saw was the mullets tail way down deep. I cut the line and back into the water he went. Shrimp count still zero. It was getting on 9:00 P.M. and by the sounds of the beeps from the fish finder things were starting to get busy. Hmmm, what to do. Well, I talked my buddies into moving and finally anchored up on the northeast side of the bridge in about 14 feet of water. Lights were set back out and we stared into the water lookin for shrimp. No shrimp. But, the fish finder was marking some really big fish below us. Greg baited up and set his rod in the rod holder facing the bank. Then he baited up another rod and that went out the back. It was 5 minutes later that we had a fish on, something big too. He tried to turn it and zing, pow, snap. While he was cussin his other rod went off. Same thing, couldn't turn it and snap. Now he was really pissed. While he retied I baited up two rods and out they went. I gave the fish finder a quick look and the black spots on the screen were frickin huge. And they kept comin and comin. My 10 pound rod went off. This was a big fish. Couldn't turn him no matter how hard I tried. Well, instead of getting spooled I locked down the drag, and you guessed it, snap. I wasn't mad either, I was laughing. In a matter of about 30 minutes Greg and I broke off 5 big fish. That's never happened to me before. So, as Capt Blair once said...it's time to go into combat mode. I put away the 10 pound rig and picked up my big gun...20 pound power pro, 30 pound flor leader, 5500 Penn spinning reel locked down to my med/hvy tarpon rod. Ain't no fish gonna get TF away now! Game on! After tying on a 5/0 circle hook and a big fat live mullet in the water it went. I held the rod this time and bounced it off the bottom a few times and ka-bam! Fish on. I was determined that this monster was comin in the boat. I got him turned, worked him up and yelled for Bogas! Then I said forget the Bogas, get the frickin net. Got him in the boat, measured out to 36 inches and back into the water he went. Nice fight! Just then Greg hooks up. He couldn't turn it and snap. That made 6 big reds lost. I told him to put down his rod and handed him my snook rod...20 pound high vis yellow power pro, 30 pound leader. He baited up and bounced it off the bottom. Fish on. We got his red in the boat and it measured out at 34 inches. To make a long story short we figured out that about every 20 minutes we were hooking up. By 3 A.M. we boated 14 reds all in the 30 pound range with the smallest at exactly 30 inches. By 4 A.M. we were about played out. Never, in all my days fishing the Indian River or Mosquito Lagoon have I ever had a day/night like that, never. Unbelievable. Un-frickin-believable! We called it a night and headed back to the ramp. Oh, by the way...total shrimp...zero, lol. But I can now say that it was the BEST shrimpin night I ever had! lol. Well, that's all folks. Hope you enjoyed my story.

Later...

Port Canveral 11/18

After hearing some reports of snook in the port, me and a buddy of mine decided to give it a shot.
Every spot we went had snook busting. Some of the more lit areas were absolutely loaded w/ snook sitting on the edge of the piling/lights some being giants blasting mullet on the surface.
We just tried using only arties which was a big mistake. The snook would just ignore any lure we threw. DOA shrimp, gulp shrimp, baitbusters, jerkbaits, sebile stick shadd, rapala x-rap, big swimbaits, misc topwaters……very aggravating

Up until midnight or so we were only catching a jack or two an hour w/ quite a few missed strikes. Then we started finding a few bluefish scattered. We started picking up more and more, then we found the motherload of bluefish. We had a blast tearing up the bluefish on topwater. EVERY cast we made we’d get a fish or about 50 hits on the way in. Somehow in the midst of the giant school of bluefish a little snooklet managed to beat them to my topwater.

after we got tired of the blues and retieing our leaders we couldn’t get away from them, they were everywhere w/ a few little jacks mixed in. up ahead of us we could just barely see a bunch of something tailing in and out of the lights (WTF?) so we trolled down to where they were and it was a HUGE school of about 7-15lb jacks w/ a few big ones thrown in swimming in circles together (very cool). They would go ballistic over the topwaters we threw. I finally got to really test out my new to me 7’ American rodsmith team redfish rod (awesome!). most of them avg. about 9lb’s or so all caught on 3000 size reels and 10 lb braid….what a blast, I thought my drag was gonna smoke for sure. We hooked into some bigger ones but either broke the line or the hooks when we tried to put the heat on them to get them up. Heres whats left of one of my plugs (broke off 1 hook off the front and 2 off the rear treble hook):

It was a great night on the water. All those blues and jacks made not bring the net/mullet for the snook not that big of a deal. Water temp was around 70-72*

Nows the time to get out there, the snook are everywhere but you’ll need bait. Or you can have a great time w/ some drag screaming jacks.
Who's afraid of a lil wind...

With Ida already causing winds of 20-30 mph I went fishing Saturday morning. The tides along with the winds just sounded WAY too nice to skip...

So I:

Met up with PBR and Heywood for a morning of fishing in the high winds this weekend. We had planned to use the mangroves to protect us and cut some of the wind. Well that kind of worked until the low tides forced us way out into the winds.

The morning started with Heywood hooking a small trout on topwater. Since it was a small fish we took no picture. PBR not wanting to be outfished soon hooked into another trout on topwater. (Does anyone else see George W. in this photo?)

The tide had been pouring out for some time and was already approaching low levels. We worked the flats and soon found snook among all the moving fish.

Heywood put on a fishing clinic as he caught many fish on many different lures he had planned on testing. Here he is fighting a nice red boat side. I know I would be falling out at this point.

Yes, this red completes the slam.

PBR was soon to get his 2/3rd's of a slam with this brick of a Red.

Once the lowtide hit we found the fish we stuck in the potholes as if they were barrels. We all soon started catching more reds trout and then I hooked into a drag screaming lunker.

Much to my disappointment I was not hooked into a nice red. I was tailhooked into a solid Mullet!

Should have kept it for the smoker but I let it go.

I did manage to find some small reds. Dang rats were hitting my bait while over slot reds in the same hole were hitting Heywoods.

Soon Heywood follows the red with yet another snook. He is now one trout away from his second slam.

Working a deep hole I finally scored something that felt bigger then the small trout and reds that I was catching. Pulling some drag we thought I had a nice red on. When it came up we were very surprised to see it was a solid just over 23" trout.

We finished the day off with more low slot reds. Heywood just couldn't find a second trout to complete his second slam. I think I may have had a snook on as my leader came back frayed after one lost and unseen fish. We made the long paddle back into the now screaming wind. It was a long slow paddle back but well worth it for the morning of solid fishing we had.

Lookin for Reds!

With the tides I thought the bite would be better. We still made the best of it. A quick stop at the first hole allowed Mark to get a red and trout on his first 2 casts. Both were small but he was 2/3rds into his slam after 2 casts.
PBR also landed a couple trout.

We moved on and Mark managed to hook into what I thought was a small snook that threw the hook. Almost slammed by 7am.

With the negative low tide I was hoping to find the fish stacked in the holes. This was not the case. The tide really wasn't as low as I thought it would be so they were still spread out on the flat.

I learned an important lesson as a red rolled on my topwater. When you are changing hooks make sure you remember to change the hooks on the lures you have tied on. A short fight later I reeled in a top water with 2 broken hooks on it.

Mark and I decided to explore a bit and found a hole that was loaded with snook. He completed his slam there with a landed snook. I hooked a couple but was unable to keep a hook in them.

Moving along an oyster bar I noticed some movement and threw my mirrodine to it. Immediately I was hooked into a nice red. The red was landed and just begged to be blackened but I did not listen and let it go.

This must have provided me with some good mojo since a little bit later while casting around some mullet I hooked into a solid fish that had the drag screamin. A good fight later I managed to get this nice red to the boat. I wish I had a measuring board but I guess the red was 28"+. It was FAT and heavy.

We moved around and looked for some more fish but it wasn't to be. We called it a day and headed home to watch a little football.

Fishing Report Weekending 11/14/09

I know it's been a while, but fly fishing the south shore of Tampa Bay and Northern Sarasota Bay was RED hot before the arrival of Ida in the Gulf. Catch and release trout is the easiest catch on fly, right now on the flats around Anna Maria. Working potholes with olive/white or chartreuse/white Clouser Minnows will score you fly catches numbering well into the 20's. Most of the fish are averaging 15-22" with just a few around 24-25". These guys are great fun on a 6 wt. fly rod.....especially Orvis' new HYDROS rods that have just been released for 2010 lined up with Orvis' new 6 wt. All-Around Saltwater floating line. High tides are no longer super high (unless on lunar phases) so it is very possible to sight cast snook and reds on a rising tide. Gold Crystal Schimmows or olive Sea Ducers will get the job done on the lower half of the rising tide due to their ultra quiet landing. On the first part of the falling tide, weighted shrimp/crab patterns and Flats Toads will get the job done on fish moving to deeper water. As with any skinny water fly application, poling a skiff is a must. It is the only way (aside from wading) that you can close the distance and not spook these weary game fish. On days when the wind is up, line management is critical and a stripping basket is a must.

On 11/1/09, P.J. Kirkhorn of Dade City enjoyed a half day of flats fishing near Anna Maria Island. Despite windy conditions that made flyrodding impossible, P.J. managed around 15 trout up to 22" and two lower slot reds. All fish were caught on spin tackle using Mirr-O-Lure's Mirro-Dines and silver spoons. Also on the catch list were ladyfish, small barracuda, juvenile gag grouper, and mangrove snapper.

Trick-Or-Treat

Turns out we were in for a treat because the snook were on a feeding frenzy out there. My dad lost four 20-27 inch range snooks and landed 3 snooks in total and the sizes were
32 inch keeper, 27.5, 36 inch.

That day I got a nice 35 inch snook using a redhawk tail. I lost 2 nice size fish and believe one of them was a tarpon that broke off. The trick of the night was that the snook's dorsal fin stabbed me in my middle finger and cause me to bleed tremendously notice the before and after pictures.

Snapper Surprise

Came back home for Halloween and took one of my friends, who doesn't like fishing, fishing for the evening :w00t:
Started out on a flat and no luck. Took him to some docks and started pulling nice Mangrove Snappers. We moved down to a dock where I've seen and caught snook before and chummed with a handful of live shrimp. Told him to cast upcurrent and let it fall, which he did. After a few seconds I told him to pull up his line because it might get caught on the dock, but when he was reeling his line was facing the current and away from the dock! The next thing you know his drag starts screeming and a 20-23" snook thrashes his head at us swimming right to shore!!!! Sadly, the snook decided to take another run and break his line.

Incoming tide (great moon and fluctuation)
Live Shrimp Free lined or Pinch weight
** Look for deep holes, with a strong tide and hold on

Windy night at Sebastian Inlet

Made the trip down to Sebastian from Orlando last night. Hooked into another nice sized one but he came loose. Great Pictures, Diagrams, Identification Characteristics. let me know what you think of these catches i made throughout September and October. I fished with (trout) rooster tail spinners and a few different kinds of worms. I came across some sunfish, pickerel, fallfish, bass, pumkinseeds, perch, brown trout, rainbow trout and some pike. I photographed them all found matching anatomical diagrams. I lauched at peacocks pocket at first light to perfect glass water.

it didn't take long to start spooking tons of fish, to bad they were all giant mullet.....everywhere!

i made it to a mangrove secluded area and there were fish busting bait everywhere. A decent sized snook chased a mullet from 20' away and slammed it on the surface right next to the yak....very cool!

i kept working the area (about 2' deep and murky water) and ended up catching two small lower slot reds on a watermelon seed exude rt slug, one being a 11 spotter.

i kept moving on and seem a several big pods of mullet getting busted. it turned out a school of poons were on them.
i ended up jumping two poons. the smaller one (3' or so) jumped right away and got off. the second one i thought was a big red b/c it stayed down for an exciting drag screaming 10 seconds or so but finally made a big jump and flung my lure.....damn!
bait was still being busted so i unded up trying to get a fish on fly for about 30 min. i got two trout on a "rattle mullet" fly. i finally hooked somthing big but missed it.

kept moving south and started getting into some big trout busting bait in about 1' deep clean grassy flat. i just kept casting at busting bait or nervous water and got 5 trout over 20", biggest being 24"
heres one of the nice ones at the end of the day:

on the way back to the ramp i only got a few small trout.
all fish were caught on either the exude jerkbait or gulp shrimp.

it was a pretty decent day on the water, i just wish i got that big bust on fly.
MirroDine Madness!!!!

That's all I gotta say :D

My buddy and I put a whoopin on the reds today with the MirroDines. Slipped a little bit on taking pics, but we decided to start targeting flounder on Saturday and ended up with 7 nice flounder and a grouper and black snapper from the bay...

From left to right: Walter, Capt Jim and Trim Tab

The grouper was just over the 22 inch minimum, so you can get an idea of the size on the flounder....they are starting to stage up for the fall migration offshore.

Headed out Sunday with Steve and Trim-Tab....fishing was slow again due to the weather change, but we did manage to catch some trout, redfish and flounder on the flats. I ended up with a small "bull" from under the bridge on my first cast...he's about half the size of the ones we usually catch there....

Murpheys law seems to be when you catch a fish on the first cast, you might as well quit....didn't catch anything else after that.

Walter and I headed offshore Monday since the winds finally agreed to lay down a bit....it was like a desert. My favorite spot had to remind me why they call it fishing and not catching.....nothing! We worked down the shore and came across a nice pod of about 25 tarpon cruising, but they weren't in the mood to eat. We made several attempts to intercept them, but they were in migration mode as well and didn't want anything to do with our baits. We stopped at another wreck on the way back in and released a couple of nice "nearly extinct" red snapper and axe handle spanish running about 5 lbs each....no pics.

Tuesday was a rain day.....about 4 inches of rain along with 25-30 MPH gusts.

Headed back out Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 for a last shot before Walter had to head back to Mississippi. Got bait and hit the spot where we had been getting nice grouper and red snapper just a few feet from shore and weren't dissappointed. First up was Walter with a nice 24" grouper....

Then Capt Jim's rod doubled over.....another 24" twin. Had him lean over to show "how far out" we went to catch these grouper, lol...

I think we used about 1/4 gallon of gas on this day, lol. We were reminded that fishing light tackle was a risk as we had a couple more let us know we were outmatched and broke us off....might have to tackle up a bit next time we hit this spot. Released a few more large spanish and Trim-Tab took home a nice redfish I caught (forgot to take a pic, but he was copper colored with pure golden gill plates, just like a Gold Johnson spoon, lol....wish I had taken his pic!). Also released a couple of trout and a bunch more short grouper.

Back to work today....yuck! Still have about 2 weeks of vacation left to burn up, so I should be hitting the water again in another week or so.....in the meantime, "its beginning to look a lot like Christmas" at work, lol...gotta love retail.....

chumhead
Tiger Shark

Shark fishing on Thursday with my son. We caught about 10 sharks and lost some big ones. One big one that didn't get away was a 7 1/2' tiger shark that was caught using a broken rod. A fish wrapped the line around the tip of the rod while trying to get the hook out and then took off snapping the rod tip off. My son baited up the hook and put the rod down. All of a sudden the line was going out like a rocket. We followed the fish and then it pulled us around. After what seemed to be about an hour we could see that it was a tiger shark. Being only a couple miles out we were surprised to see a shark like that. It was a thrill to see it. The shark had 2 other hooks in it and I was able to remove one of them before releasing the shark. I was using 30lb Fins Windtamer braid with a 135lb plastic coated wire cable with an 8/0 circle hook. I had no problems with the line after being hooked up with at least 14 sharks. My son was using Power Pro with a solid wire leader and 8/0 hook. We used cut bait.

Windy day turns good

Friday I took out my friend Bill on my canoe. We were up before the sun rose and were off to my spot. Little did I know it was extremely windy out on the water. Oh well. The tide was dropping, but at a really slow rate so I knew exactly where to go. We got to the area and anchored up and my first two casts resulted in 18 inch trout. Not too bad. We fished there for about twenty minutes and caught a few more trout on the mirrodine and salt water assassins. Then we paddled to the good spot. Immediately, we began catching trout and then I caught a ladyfish. So I cut it up and my first cast I caught a nice 25.5" redfish :). Then my buddy gets slammed and broke off :w00t:. So I tossed out the mirrodine and 15 minutes later I had a big fish on. It was a fat 17" grouper and it had my buddy's hook, leader, and ladyfish in its mouth :D. So that was pretty cool. A little later Bill and I doubled up and I began to joke and say that my fish was bigger and Bill's drag started to go out so began to doubt my trout was bigger. Finally the fish show themselves and I had caught a nice trout and Billys "trout" was actually a huge catfish! Haha so that was negative points. Total for the day was 17 trout, 1 redfish, 1 mangrove snapper, 1 ladyfish, and a catfish :P.
Here is some pics
Big trout that fell for the dine as you can see

One of Bills trout

My nice red that I let go for some reason (25.5")

The mischievous grouper that broke off Billy

Water clarity: Crystal Clear
Wind: 17 knots south east
Tide: Outgoing
Best bet: Mirrodine

Thanks for reading along, B.B.
Cape Canaveral Hospital 10-16-09

Got out to the launch a bit earlier than Safe Light :w00t:

,but this place is lit up like a Christmas Tree at night, and I wanted to work the Mangrove Shoreline that wraps around before Sun-Up for Snook.
