I have 9 different ones in my yard right now and have my first cross pollinated (I hope it was my work and not mother nature) seeds growing right now. Cuttings will grow if you just stick them in the ground (well drained soil)

Joe

RE: Dirty Dog Ranch goes green . . .

2D - I'm tempted to start adding a lot more things in the green house. I'd like to start with some more veggies first . . . I'd love to eventually grow some flowers too, but gotta get my feet wet before I move on. I'd like to be able to start cloning some of the plants I've got in the yard already (Croatans, Ruella, Liriopie, Oyster plants, Devil's Spine, etc.) just to save $ on having to buy them at a nursery. I dig this stuff! :w00t: Get it, d-i-g it? Ha! ;)

And as for the other "Green" thing in our yard . . . we're taking it out on the water tomorrow for "Fishing Friday" and will hopefully have some pics to post for the first time in a long time!

Have a great weekend everyone,

Trice

RE: Dirty Dog Ranch goes green . . .

Trice, I don't want to give you another hobby but it looks like you could use that for some orchids. Some of them are pretty easy to grow and the blooms last a long time (weeks - months)

Joe

RE: Dirty Dog Ranch goes green . . .

I don't have a better background because neither of us will get off the boat to take the picture. :D

RE: Dirty Dog Ranch goes green . . .

I think it would look better with a blue background. maybe aqua green? :D

where are you guys fishing this Friday Kevin?

RE: Dirty Dog Ranch goes green . . .

Adda-boy! :D

RE: Dirty Dog Ranch goes green . . .

You mean this one, Will?

We have only been out twice, so we are still breaking her in. Patrice caught her first grouper on the maiden voyage. Mango snapper, ladyfish, bluefish, jack, and trout have already been caught. I'm installing a new Humminbird 1197 on her this week for Friday's trip. We have gone to a 4-day work week, so we can go out in the boat on "Fishing Fridays"!

It's awesome!

RE: Dirty Dog Ranch goes green . . .

Nice. I like a little heat in my food . . . Kevin, not so much. I almost got one of the hot pepper plants but thought I'd have too many on my hands when they came in. Hey, I can tweak it and add anything I want so who knows what I'll be growing next!

I can't wait to make some zucchini bread (two kinds - sweet & savory breads), grill some eggplant, make some bruschetta with my tomatoes and basil . . . oh, the possibilities are endless - bwaahaahaa!!

I told you that I've gone off the deep end . . . :w00t:

P

RE: Dirty Dog Ranch goes green . . .

Looking forward to some food reports with those fresh Veggies!!! It was time to grow our own food . . . if Kevin would let me, I'd bring in my own chickens, cows and sheep too! He'd disown me though (I think) if I did that.

Plus, the food just tastes better when it comes from your own soil . . . not over processed, over hybred, over sprayed, over grown and over priced. Just back to the basics here on the ranch.

I'll be bringing some of my harvest to Mogan Mania to share!

RE: Dirty Dog Ranch goes green . . .

Nice job there Producerman on the build, and great job on fillin that thing up Trice. With the price of veggies these days, you'd think that it takes 8 gallons of gas to bring a single tomato to market! We'll eventually all get smart and start growing our own food again. Thanks for posting the pics, it looks great, and fun too,

Enjoy!

Mike & Jama

 :o)

RE: Dirty Dog Ranch goes green . . .

Cool looking composter Cook!
I really like the greenhouse Trice. Good thing Kevin made it bird proof. I used to grow tomatoes in my backyard in large containers and just before they'd get ripe, the mockingbirds would peck holes in them!!!

I may start growing my own veggies again after looking at your greenhouse and also seeing the high cost of vegetables in the store!

Nothing like fresh vegetables that are home grown! :)

RE: Dirty Dog Ranch goes green . . .

Cool beans!
Now all ya need is one of these.
RE: Dirty Dog Ranch goes green . . .

Nice greenhouse and it looks critter proof too. I did the 100% organic veggie garden myself before, the whole build up the compost/soil prep etc. However, the Rott we had decided to "harvest" up things and do victory rolls in the leftovers.......:w00t:

NOTHING like going back to the land and enjoying the results at the supper table, good luck to you guys.

Dirty Dog Ranch goes green . . .

We're growing our own veggies folks . . . and having a blast! It's amazing to see these beauties grow and turn into vegetables . . . I'm diggin' it! I've got to add some more varieties (carrots, beets, sweet potatoes) to the bunch but for now, it's a good start:

Beefsteak tomatoes

Patio tomatoes

Red peppers

Yellow peppers

Black eggplant

Japanese eggplant

Zucchini

Yellow Squash

Acorn Squash

Cucumbers

Cantelope

Rosemary / Thyme / Parsley / Cilantro / Basil

I've got 3 pineapple plants growing elsewhere on property, and a Blueberry bush on the way . . .

I'm now ready for a mango and avacado tree! I don't think Kevin knew what he was getting into when he built me a greenhouse . . . I'm waaaaay over on the deep end of this pool now!! :w00t:
