Boca-x ,First, welcome to the forum(great place). You're right, I could not imagine what it is like to catch a fish of that size. Not sure if I even would want to on my 18ft flats boat. Its just that I look at a creature like that and can only guess the amount of years it took to become so magnificant. I guess I look at it with a respect and could only hope that others would feel the same way. Some of us practice catch and release and some of us practice catch only, I would rather release my catch and then lie about how big it really was anyway(lol).

I fish Boca Grande every week...was out there yesterday...a Tarpon head was washed up on the beach, looked to be in the 125 pound range...it too was a awesome creature. Another large tarpon was catching a break on the shallow flats, swimming there for several hours to regain its strength after a battle with a angler...they do this so they don't the become dinner. I've seen more sharks in the pass then ANY place else.

I LOVE FISHING AND I LOVE RELEASING FISH but that doesn't mean I will release EVERYTHING I catch and I can't even imagine what would happen if I caught a 1300 pound fish on rod and reel...

One fish caught and taken...If all the posts on the topic are true then most people would let a fish that large go...now all you have to do is catch one and then you can be someone elses hero.

My first post...been reading the forum for a year now, have always watched the show...TIVO makes my life easy. Fish today watch TV tomorrow!

Sounds like the same argument gun control advocates use...."IF the gun could be used to shoot someone one day, it would be worth getting rid of it now"........ the same thing could be said for cars or anything else, including Mr Bucky.

Did anybody see the pics of it being transported on I-75. I will post them for those who haven't seen it. What a shame. Why is it that I find this very disturbing? What a total waste of an amazing animal. Not sure if this is true, but apparently when it was cut open, 30 pups were found iside.

people at work keep coming to me saying "hey, did you see that shark they caught?", with excitement on their face. then they see the disgust on mine and politely agree when i express my disapproval.

Like I have said before, I only kill what I am going to eat. Had to keep a smallmouth bass once because she was gut hooked, broke my heart.

I live in Mississippi, but usually make several trips every year to the salt. My biggest catch yet was a 69" black tip shark. I was honored to have caught such an awesome fish and could not imagine killing it. The fisherman's comments about his catch was asinine to say the least. If we killed everything that had the potential to harm a human, then there would be very little wildlife left!

Supposedly this shark was a SHE, and she was PREGNANT with quite a number of pups.

Te worst part of this, is that for every Floridian that thinks this is an outrage, there will be 17 tourists that will want to catch a big shark and get their picture made alongside the carcass.

The story said they used a 25 pound live stingray!!! I don't know about you, but I ain't even going to think about trying to rig a live stingray!!

Hey guys, I just saw this story on espn. I was just wanting to hear some opinions on killing a fish like this. I know world records are important to some people, but I think it would be hard for me to kill an awesome creature like that. What do you think?
