Mogan Mania 2011

Last year. as some of you die hard Mogan Maniac's remember, was probably one of the best events that we ever had, minus, watching a tropical storm blow through the area and kicking off the event. The fans, old friends, new friends, the food, and, good times had by all, will always be remembered and never forgotten. The reason I started this thread is two fold. First, just to remind you all that MM is not too far off and to start thinking about attending this special event. And two, to see if the AF Staff have anything special up their sleeves that may fire up our interest for MM 2011. Anyway, now that I stired the pot, let's hear what's cooking on the AF stove. And by the way, who's thinking on attending MM2011 ?

1) I am ! Wouldn't miss it for the world! ;)

Well I have hit rock bottom. My entire life is unravelling in my lap and I am powerless to stop it.

My wife informs me that she is leaving me for another woman, taking the kids and moving in with her in savannah to play Susie effing homemaker, while going to college.

I've lost my job got almost everything in pawn, been under stress and anxiety so bad I can't eat solid food for the last month. In feb I was 480 lbs. Last week I was 240 lbs. Yesterday I was 231 lbs. I'm wasting away and this crap is going on in my house. I paid for this girl's plane ticket here and a bus ticket home under the ruse that she wad just visiting my wife in vacation. I don't know what to do or where to turn anymore. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers while I do some serious soul searching.

Fished the Jax kayak tournament this weekend and was flying the AF flag when I placed 1st Largest Flounder. A little over 400 entered and I have never fished the area so I was in complete shock when they called me up to accept a new kayak and other goodies. Between fishing in a beautiful new area, winning something in the tournament and seeing family I haven't seen in over 20 yrs, I've had an awesome weekend!

ive been hooked on the show since discovering it on youtube!
wow what a show, we just dont have any fishing shows on TV that come near the excitement of this show, yeehaaa, minted!
Over here it is very cold, also a bit of snow, every morning before I go to work Ive been watching your show and its keeping me warm:)
I so want to come fish in Florida now, I need to find out how to get there and where to go now.
Over here I fly fish for trout and do some sea fishing in the summer months when the water just gets warm enough and brings in the mackeral.
we got some awesome trout and salmon fishing over here, trout season started March 15.
Anyway big shout to Blair and the crew.

66th St and 86th Ave N, Pinellas Park,Florida

Storm Water Run-Off Ditch,middle of town,miles from saltwater,trash-lined sides,water so nasy that if ya fell in you`d ask to be shot instead of being saved,so unwanted that you never see footprints,and when a childhood friend showed me this spot,I though he may have hit his head a bit too hard;)......but to my suprise IT HELD SNOOK :w00t:.....nothing Huge,with my largest being 24",but they are there everytime I go........have`nt been there in over there in over a year,but stopped by yesterday.......they are still there !!!!

I was pressed for time,but the 15 minutes I had,I spent with 5 of these little fellas :P

I`m getting calls from everyone I know saying....Was that you I seen on that AF Show ?.......:D

Cari made her first Cameo in this one also,but she`s sneeky,you realy have to watch close,but she can be found ;)

I also got a chance to see just how hard this Show can be to make,....Blair had Cobia on the brain that day,as some of the Bloopers show :P

With all this talk about canning this forum,it has me kinda disapointed.....:w00t:
This use to be one of the strongest forums around,giving FS a reason to worry,but sence the changes two years ago,came problems,and the number of members using this forum took a major downward spiral,there are many of us that still come here everyday in hopes of seeing a new report,only to find the same-ole.
I for one would like to see this change,so speak up if you feel the same,I started this post because of what was put up on the Home Page News,and I feel this forum is worth saving,but I also feel that it needs some work done to the site to make it a bit easier for folks to use,Facebook is fantastic,and if we just take a few ideas that they are using,like making it easier to post Pictures and Videos,more folks would start using it again !!!!!
Facebook is great,but the folks using the AF Page there are mostly one time users,from all over the country,trying to talk to Blair.....witch is cool,but this forum was a place to keep your finger on what was going on in the Fishing World,plus we have all made a great number of friends here.
Thats enough from me,I`d like to hear what some of you think about this :)

I know Carolina Skiffs don't have the "glamour" that some of the other brands do, but after owning my 24DLX for 4 years and 10 months, I can say I love it more every time I use it. From 4 inches of water to fishing offshore, this boat has done everything I asked and more. This boat has been great.....I don't know of another 24 footer that can float in 4 inches of water, get over 8 miles per gallon at 25mph cruise, AND is USCG rated for 18 (yes, eighteen) people.

Well, a while back after a short fishing trip I lifted the boat on the hoist and heard water running......not normal! I stooped down and looked at the bottom and found that one of the 4 "keels" had delaminated and completely come off!

I contacted Carolina Skiff and my insurance company just to make sure I had everything covered. After a trip back to the factory in Waycross, GA, Carolina Skiff called me and said they flipped the boat over to start a warranty repair, and the damage was more than they expected. He then said "we'd like to replace your hull". I said that would be great. Then he said, "we'd like to replace it with a 2011 hull"....again I said "great". Next I was informed that due to so many changes and upgrades, my front/rear decks and console from my 2006 woudn't fit the new 2011 hull, so they wanted to just put my motor on a brand new 2011 rig! After seeing the new 2010 DLX's, I had even considered selling mine and upgrading to a new one, so needless to say it took a fraction of a New York Second to give them the go-ahead for that offer.

I received a call today saying my boat would be ready to pick up next Friday. Carolina Skiff has gone out of their way to not only satisfy me, but more or less blow me away with how they offered to take care of me. I didn't have to ask or argue for anything....they called me and made the offers that I accepted. Its great to see that there are still companies out there that not only stand behind their product, but go above and beyond. Working in retail myself, you rarely hear the good, and mostly hear the bad....so I wanted to pass along one of the "Good" stories. I will post some pics of the new ride once I get her home!

Boaters License

Everytime I am weekend I am on the water, either for fun or on a professional level. Every weekend I am amazed at the low intelligence level of the majority of boaters in our waters. I know I am going to ruffle some feathers here but something has to be done. At very least any person wishing to operate a vessel in FL waters should be required to take the STCW basic boaters safety course. There should be boat ramps that you must pass a test to get to use. I am so tired of waiting at the ramp while people load or unload their boat in everyones way still on the ramp. I am tired of people not knowing how to back a trailer: forward backwards, forward backwards. WTH? practice at home or in a shopping mall parking lot after hours/ I am tired of people backing down ramp in the dark with their headlights on. Well I will get off my soap box now. Sorry if I offended anyone.

Mogan Mania Survival Stories

I managed to last the full weekend while hanging with a guy that had a bullseye on his back the entire weekend. Jeff almost got run over by a golf cart and hit by a falling branch... and that was within the first 30 minutes of being there!

As usual, I had an absolute blast! Not even Tropical Storm Bonnie could rain on my parade. I got rained on several times while in the kayak but it didn't bother me a bit. I had great company all weekend. Dr Don & Jeanine, Bob and Michelle, saved me from Jeff and his curse. It was great to see old friends and meet new ones, too.
I'm ready for the next one!

I'll post tome pictures later. I'm still trying to sort them all out.

Question was asked about when everyone thought would be a good time for it this year,and should we wait until after the kids got out of school ?

I`m single again,so anytime is great for me,but I think waiting until the kids are out for Summer is best,seeing how this has always been a Family Gathering :D

Hi guys, I finally got some time to see what the fam is up to. Some of yall are getting some nice fish! I am still doin the 50 hour a week thing at Dicks but I just did something I have always talked about doing. I am have started the course to get my captains license which should become a reality in about 6 months. Then we will see where it goes from there. Camelfish chomps off mans hand !

When this young man regained consciousness he was informed that is was NOT a camelfish that bit off his hand. It was a gator. Still shaken, the young said he was eye ball to eye ball with the insane camelfish and swore up and down that it really was a camelfish that attacked him but later accepted the fact it was a gator after all. The censored (camelfish being removed from the report) article is as follows:

NAPLES, Fla. -- An 18-year-old southwest Florida man wants to close the popular swimming hole where an alligator bit off his left hand.

Tim Delano was swimming with friends Sunday night in the canal known as "The Crystal" when the 10-foot alligator attacked him.

Delano said on Monday that he heard a cracking sound when the reptile pulled him under the water. He said he punched the gator until it released him.

The alligator was trapped and killed. Delano's hand was found in its stomach, but doctors could not reattach it.

Delano said he wants authorities to close the canal to swimmers. He said he was told no animals would be in the waters.

Wildlife officials advise people that any freshwater canal or lake in Florida could contain alligators.

I Got Stung By A Stingray

Today is my first day back on-line since Sunday...

Here's a very short story off topic, and I mean short due to the fact that I can only type with one hand.

This past Sunday Greg, son-in-law, and I decided to take the boat out and do some fishing. Around noon I hooked into a sting ray. Nothing new since you catch them all the time down here and I have released hundreds over the years of fishing. I got him up to the side of the boat, turned my head for a second to reach for the pliers and bam! He got me on my left hand. Quick as a snake bite! I yanked my hand up and he pulled free taking a huge amount of flesh with him. The pain was immediate and so was the bleeding. I told Greg to cut the lines free, throw the rods on the floor and head for the boat ramp which was only a half mile away. To make matters worse as Greg was getting the boat on the trailer his blackberry fell into the water. Now we have no phone and don't have a clue where the nearest hospital is. Now the pain is starting to reach the middle of my forearm. When we stopped for a red light I yelled out the window for directions to the ER. Thank God we were only two miles away. The pain was now up to my elbow and hurt so frickin bad that I felt like throwing up. You all ever been there? Greg dropped me off at the ER entrance and went to park the truck. As I walked into the ER three nurses looked at me and asked if I had been shot. I never noticed all the blood on my clothes. I said no...a stingray got me really bad on my hand and tried to describe the pain. They rushed me into a room and went to work on my hand. First, they had me put my hand into a large bin that had some type of solution and extremely HOT water. Believe it or not but once I adjusted to the HOT water it relieved a small portion of the pain but as the water cooled the pain came right back. One of the nurses was nice enough to refill the bin with hot water as I needed it. Another nurse walked in and asked when was the last time I had a Tetanus shot. Before I could finish saying I don't remember she injected the shot into my right arm. Another nurse walked in and asked how I was doing. I told her the pain was still really really bad. She returned a short time later with a Percocet pill, an antibiotic pill, and, cup of water. I liked her! Then the Doctor came in to assess the damage and left without saying a word. About a minute later she returned with a frickin needle that could kill an elephant. She said she had to deaden the hand so that she could open up the puncture wound to get a better view. I knew that was coming but because I was in so much pain I just told her to do it. Wrong move on my part. Ended up biting my lip. Yes, it hurt but there are no words to describe the pain. Next, in rolls an X-Ray machine with a cute little Tech telling me to hold my hand in several different positions. I asked why the X-Rays, my hand was not broken? She smiled and said we have to see if the stingray left any barbs behind. If they see any barbs stuck in there the Doctor has to dig them out. Oh. Really? No shit. Wasn't she a boat load of sunshine?!? She left and the Doctor returned and asked if the numbing needle started to work. I said no. Then I asked for another one. She looked at me like I was nuts but I was telling the truth. She went and got another needle, told me to man up, and hit me again with that thing about eight times. The Doctor said if that didn't work then they would have to knock me out, which at that time, would have been better than getting stuck by two needles. And by the way, that last needle did do the trick. The Doctor came back in and after looking over the X-Rays said no barbs were left behind and went to work. I asked her bad it was and she said that the only thing that stopped the stinger from going completely through was that it hit a hand bone. I finally looked over her shoulder to see for myself. The puncture hole was about as round as a 'dime' but about an inch deep. How many stitches am I going to get? None, we don't stitch up these wounds due to the high rate of infection. If this does get infected we're going to have to open it back up and clean it again. Oh. Really? No shit. Well, I can't walk out of here with a hole in my hand!?! Before she could answer she already had closed the hole with a 'butterfly' bandage and was almost done rapping it with gauze. I think the Percocet was starting to work due to the fact that the pain was subsiding in my arm and now I couldn't feel my hand at all. I was free to go and left that ER was a little happier than when I arrived. If anyone reading this and has experienced the pain from a stingray sting please let me know. If anyone wants to know what that type of pain feels like, just ask me. It's very unique and I have never felt anything like it in my life. End of story. One more thing, please be careful around these animals. I wouldn't wish this pain on my worst enemy. And I'm not kidding either!

FishnNut and I headed over to the Frank Sargent Show today at the Tampa Fairgrounds........Now I`m not big on going to these LOOKY-LOOK shows,but I must say,I Had A Great Time....Spent about 5 hrs just walking around to all the booth`s,seeing all the new ideas,decent prices,friendly folks more than willing to talk with ya, about anything to do with Water :D

Stopped by to see the Gang over at the Fins Booth,and got schooled on some new line......and yes,Mr Mono will be checking out the Windtamer Braid on his next trip out :P......and it`s always a big boost of energy seeing AF Producer and Trice,and getting all stoked about MM X :cool:

Crackers computer died!

I talked to Cracker yesterday and he's climbing the walls. His computer died, crashed, umm, it's gone to computer heaven, and Cracker is going through "HE" double "L". A computer neighbor spent like untold hours trying to work his computer magic but even he thinks it's gone. If any anyone has an old computer to donate to a very worthy cause please let him know, if you have his number, or me. Again, if you know Cracker he's either fishing or posting here and on Facebook. I'm going thank you in advance for him since, well, since he can't get on line. Thanks again. :):exclamation:

Just curious if we have any USMC vets here. Im just about half way done with school, and im just starting my diet/work out so i can join by next year summer. After i come back, im going to finish up my school--to become an x-ray technician. Why am i doing this? I honestly want to go to USMC and serve my country that way then start my career as an X-Ray Tech. I've wanted to go since the 8th grade but i got slightly injured while walking at school, so it put me out of commission for 12th grade summer, so i started my schooling to which im half way done. All i gots to do is do 8 hours of volunteering and just apply to the program which is the other half of my schooling-bout 1 or 2 years long.;)

i was thinkin along the lines of 0351--assaultman with rockets, anti tanks and stuff--or 8532 which is small arms weapons trainer.:cool::cool: I am striving to become a Sgt or Staff Sgt. If my physical condition becomes hella better, i wanna try and be a marksman with the m40a1, 0317 SCOUT SNIPER! No NO NOOOOO!!! Dont think im saying this because i saw a friggen movie or from video games so thats why i wanna do that. DOOOOONT SAY IT! I get really really angry when people think and say that stuff because NO i dont get idea from movies or games, rather i love the science behind being a marksman. The whole wind, ballistics, bullet drop, bullet spin, muzzle velocity, bullet drop compensators for scopes, minute of angle, how many mils per feet ETC ETC! All that stuff interests me and im willing to bust my behind to learn it and do that stuff in the field. I do undsterstand soldiers are being killed and it doesn't really scare me...why? i've been nearly ran over just 20 feet in front of my house 6, not once or twice, 6 times while walking...ON THE SIDE WALK! Folks try and miss the speed bump and nearly take me out because they dont want to slow down...its funny cuz im wearing reflective clothing and a white shirt, and im a fairly large person and yet they still seem to barely see me!
