Buy the smallest chartreuese popping bug they have. Tie it as far from the bubble as you can (3 to 6 ft) so that you can still cast it. One it is out there, reel in some to get the bubble away from the lure. Let the bug sit for about 5 to 10 seconds, give it a tiny twitch and repeat.

RE: 7/8/06 Fresh Fly Fun

that it?

if so, nice! ill try it, i found at walmart, they have popping bugs, and ima try it out DOA!

RE: 7/8/06 Fresh Fly Fun

Hey Mangrove. Before you get a fly rod, you can use the popper bugs I am talking about with your spinning gear.

Just look in walmart for something called a casting bubble. It looks like a clear egg and what you do with it is tie a long 4 to 6 lb mono leader behind it attatched to a fly or little popper bug. It is plastic so it allows you to cast your fly. Because it is clear, it does not bother the fish.

Miz DOA has used this and caught nice fish.

RE: 7/8/06 Fresh Fly Fun

id like to use fly on my lake, small bluegill and crappie! and of course, big mean bass!

RE: 7/8/06 Fresh Fly Fun

Went to a buddies pond for some sunset bluegillen and boy was it fun. Sorry, we took no cameras, to be honest we were not expecting much more than just killen some time on the water (my favourite thing to do).

We get on the lake at day light and start throwin chartreuse popper bugs at the weed edges. The fun got warmed up with some small (ski em in brim).

Then all of the sudden, something with some shoulders. All in all we ended up with at least a dozen large bluegill. You know the kind that get so big thay get that knot head look. All the fish were released.

While working the weedline, I we spotted some bass feeding on baitfish just out in open water. GAMETIME at the trolling motor took us over to where the action was. The bass stopped hitting but we figured they had to be close by. I set down my 4wt and grabbed the 8wt with a bee patter dollberg diver tied on. Upon laying it out I began chugging it with hard strips when all of the sudden (KA-PLOOSH!!!) Gone... fish on baby!!!

After a nice tussel I bring a chubby 2 lb. bass on board, gave em a little pat on the belly, and released him to catch another day.

GAMETIME and I though it was funny that two dudes in a high dollar bass boat with their fancy baitcasters were behind us watching the constant action... they finally got tired of being whooped up on by fly fishermen and they cranked up the 200hp merc and spead away.:D.

The wind picked up a bit on us but that seemed to only make things better. I think it made the fish not as leary about hitting the lure. What a fun day it was, fly fishing is one of life's finer pleasures.

I will try to at least get a pic of the fly the bass ate, I know at least one person that would be interested.
