I use a spun deer hair fly that I tie and a shrimp pattern that I made up. The best thing that I can say is to use something that your are comfortable casting with. I know that trout fishing in a stream is a lot different then casting a weighted 3-4" fly in open water with a breeze and a BIG tail sticking out of the water making your knees knock. I cast 60 feet (give or take 15) so distance is not a big problem. I'm not sure if your new to saltwater but you'll need to give the fly some natural looking motion with your retrieve (short strips, long strips, twitch twitch pause :)). Bend back type of flies will stay weedless if you plan on fishing in real shallow water or if you are in weeds. Clousers have the added weight but work well, mudder style flies work well but are harder to cast due to the wind resistance. Pick a fly and give it a try!

Have fun

Joe

new rod, need tips on flies for mosquito lagoon

alright, im pretty new to saltwater flyfishing, being a colorado trout angler myself, so im glad to get a chance to fish the salt. any tips on flies is great, i cant wait to get out
