shhhhhh, don't tell anyone about this. The Accardo Spook is a little popping bug that you can normally find at Walmart for around a buck eighty-five. I fish it on a four or five weight with a WFF line. Let the little bug sit still until the ring where you cast it gets to around three feet in diameter, then just give it a little twitch.

I fish 'em out behind the house and bass, gills, shellcrackers and speckled perch love 'em. Just don't tell anyone I said so.;)

i use those little crappy flies you can buy at walmart like 97¢ for 20
they work perfect for bream and little baby bass i have never caught a big bass or carp on the fly rod though would've liked to but i dont have it anymore :angry:

I swear to God and on the bible. I have been an artist since 1989 and have had people try to con me, chew me down on price or whatever to get free stuff which they never do if they ask but I give tons of work to charity and friends. I have been tying flies for about as long and have never offered to send anyone some for free and them not jump on it. I don't know if I should get my feelings hurt or show much respect for the offer not being accepted when I made it months ago. WOW. Anyways, Sorry I have not been around much lately but Montana was calling and I had to answer but I am back so clear some space for my wordy answers. :)

I've been using my "Joe's special" like the chartruse one I gave you a while back. As the others have said a Dahlburg diver type fly works wonders. I've caught a few good size (6.4, 6.8 and 7.4 pounders) bass in the ponds around my area.

A 5wt won't cast it as far as the 8wt but then again, you don't need much more then 20-30 feet.

Where ya live? You can email me personally if you wish. Tell me what you are after and I'll tie you a few and send them to you. Can always use some word of mouth.

As for poppers, I hate tyin' them bastards but since I was a little kid I have always used what my dad called a glow bug I think. It's a white popper, rubber band legs and black hair over the hook. They do glow in the dark too.

I do well with deer hair poppers, especially late evening or even at night. I tie 'em big then trim to different sizes for variety. Once you learn to 'spin' the hollow hair on, this is an easy pattern and very effective on a lot of species. My first carp on a fly rod took one of these poppers... WOW! :w00t:

I like white or black Sliders(jims flies on ebay makes the pattern I use lately) and large Black poppers (#4 hook).They work on yankee bass anyway.I use an 8 wt. to cast them but I'm sure a 5 wt. can move them too.

Like DOA said, try a dahlberg diver. Just remember you are throwing a 5wt instead of an 8 wt. I have been tying some foam flies and catching bass in the ponds in my neighborhood. Yesterday my neighbor and I went out and caught at least 40 bass. I'm not kidding. Did I say they were only about 10" on average. Still fun tying flies and praticing your fly casting. I have also had success on little #8 streamers. Simple and effective. Email me your address Vlap and I will take care of you. I'm am now stalking the ponds for carp...giant, mogan carp. Now that is fun on a 5 wt.

Oh, for bass, I love a daulberg <spelling) diver.

It looks like a fuzzy bee. Remember that if you use floating flies. get the floatant which is pretty much silicone gel. Rub it on the fly and in the fibers of it and it will keep it from getting water logged and sinking.

i like lil popers just cause they are fun and everything likes them but more specifecally for brem i like a lil rubber spider and for bass i like a wolly booger....

I recently picked up a new orvis streamline 5 weight rod with the intent of doing a little more freshwater fishing.Largemouth bass are in the ponds around here along with other smaller fish. Im trying to find some good flies for freshwater that are small and light enough to toss on a 5 wt.
Ideas?
