I am really thinking of getting on of these things. I am an avid kayak fisherman up here in Stuart and I believe that in most situations the kayak is better for the inshore fishing I do than any other boat. That being said, I can't take my wife and daughter in it, I can't fish the tarpon in the north fork and there are some other places I would like to fish where kayak access is a long paddle away. I'm thinking a flats boat will be overkill for what I want and very expensive. Will the Gheenoe do all the things I listed? What will I miss between a Gheeno and a flats boat like a Ranger Phantom or Ghost?

I'm serious because on the surface I can't think of anything except cost, gas, maintenance, etc.

Thanks.[/quote]

let me say this...

I can take my wife and lil girl in it - with no problems.

I see kayaks all the time on the river... me personally I like to stand up from time to time or move my legs around... sometimes sticking them out in the water to cool off! lol

RE: gheenoe who else has one

I'm interested in buying a Gheenoe boat.. I would like to hear from other owners as well. I was on the custom gheenoe site and saw some pretty cool layouts. So you think it would be stable enough to take my 9 year old on or my wife? We do get some pretty large boat wakes in the indian river here when the cruisers go by.

I don't see myself taking this thing out in the ocean.

RE: gheenoe who else has one

silentquest: I can tell you I have owned my gheenoe for about 15 years. I used to roam the grass flats of tampa bay around the alafia river and liked the fact you could paddle or pole just about anywhere. The craft is stable enough to stand up in and thats a plus when your out on the water for a long time. Since I have moved to South Carolina I have moved to the lakes and cooper river area. I know use a 40# thrust trolling motor which allows me to get around pretty good. I have gotten hit by some pretty good waves by some bigger boaters and have done fine. The geenoe only needs about 4-5 inches of water. I would probably hesitate to take it out in the ocean but would feel safe in all inshore situations. I would like to add a small gas kicker but I will say my wife and myself like the quiet trolling motor for cruising around looking for wildlife.

RE: gheenoe who else has one

Can I ask a question of you Gheenoe owners?
