I still don't know why you didn't want to wade over and get a closer look :hehe:

RE: Falling from a canoe or kayak.

There is a reason why you do not hear about fisherpeople getting attacked, or killed...

Now I will say that CooknFish has some kind of allure ot sharks. I have witnessed him moon walking in knee deep water as a shark he released decided it wanted to dance with him. That was funny. After the shark turned, we all laughed, but until that point, I let out a noise that I can best describe as a concerned moan... OOOOOOAAAAAAA!

RE: Falling from a canoe or kayak.

Dolphins have also been known to "bump" into people's yaks and canoes tipping them into the water. I personally have not had that happen. However, I do have to say that most of the water I fish in is very shallow so if you do fall out you can just stand up and if I happen to be in a hole that is too deep to stand I can just swim a short distance and then stand up.

I think you need to remember TO JUST STAY CALM no matter what. Sharks do NOT want to eat us or attack us however if you look like bait .... well.... you know.

If you're really that afraid of the water you probably should just take up golf and forget fishing all together.

RE: Falling from a canoe or kayak.

Sharks don't really both canoes or kayaks. Manatees are big, curious creatures and will rub on your boat... if they see you. If you don't see them and run up on their back with the canoe, you can almost guarantee you will go for a swim. Now you're in the water with the sharks and you cannot climb back into a canoe in deep water.

RE: Falling from a canoe or kayak.

Why should I worry about manatees and dolphins?

RE: Falling from a canoe or kayak.

And don't forget the dolphins!! If I see them roaming around I go in the other directions.... Sharks, on the hand, I'll pitch a bait at!! : )

RE: Falling from a canoe or kayak.

Amen

RE: Falling from a canoe or kayak.

There are worse things to be scared of, sharks are the least of your worries. These beast should scare you into staying on shore!

RE: Falling from a canoe or kayak.

Not that I have ever heard of... To be honest I do fish for them for a kayak and am not too worried. I have caught them while wading and released them beside me.
They are creatures to be respected but in all honesty I do not think they want to hurt us...

I love to see them when I am out fishing.

RE: Falling from a canoe or kayak.

Do they ever attack the canoe?

RE: Falling from a canoe or kayak.

Some people have had sharks hit a fish they were bringing in. Will this cause you to fall from your boat? No it should not.

I guess you won't want to join me when I next go shark fishing. I love them sharks. Incredible creatures.

Falling from a canoe or kayak.

I'm thinking of buying a canoe for fishing in those no motor zones etc..
When you bring in a fish from your canoe or kayak, does it ever get hit by a shark? sorry but I'm really afraid of sharks, thats why i would never want to fall off......
