The guy won this Sandpiper by Eddyline in the Ospreybay tournament. Since he has about 10 kayaks already he was happy to sell it to me. The kayak is made of cobonelite and weights about 40lbs. This is perfect to put on a flats boat to make the long run and fish even skinnier and closer to the fish via yak. (for better photo opportunities)

That was the idea I had anyways but it's been sitting in the garage for quite a long time. Today with the North East wind blowing 15-20mph and the tide was already suppose to be -.6 , I know there won't much water out there. Today was the day to breakout the Sandpiper.

The kayak hasn't been set up for fishing yet and I didn't really have time. All I grabbed was 1 rod/paddle/lifevest/bag of plastics/jigheads/a mirrodine/pliers and I was off. Pretty much bare essential. This turned out to be a blessing as the water was so low I had to drag the yak quite a ways. I didn't even make a cast until 8am.

However from 8am to 11am.. the bite was on fire. With this warm winter we are having I was catching lots of snooks out on the flats. 11 to be exact. I lost the mirrodine to a overslot snook that rapped me in grass and broke my 20lb leader. I added 7 reds (2 over slot) and 2 trout with mission fishin jig head and Slurp and gulp bodies.

It was a tough nasty windy day out there and many times I couldn't even stop the kayak and had to get out and wade. It was well worth the hassle. Today if you had a peddle Hobbie it would've been a big disadvantage as the water was too low rendering it, useless. The sandpiper did it's job as a lite transport craft to get to the fishing hole. I was impressed how it tracked without rudder. I might be be doing more yak fishing as long as I can keep the hassle of loading and unloading to a minimum =)

These pictures were done on the Optio W30 as I didn't want to ruin an expensive DLSR in these conditions. =)
