It is hard to get a good used yak for a low price.

The guy I bought my 2 from (both new) in December a few years ago, advised me to just buy them new with the winter/Christmas discount he gave me.

He sells his rental and demo units in March and he said he priced the used ones about the same as what he was quoting me and he said I would be lucky to get one of the used ones because they went so fast. He was telling the truth - he sold all of his demos in March in a Saturday morning at about a 10 to 15% discount.

I've heard good things about OutdoorPlay.com. They are located in Hood River, Oregon (wind surfing capitol of the world) and carry the full line of Ocean Kayaks along with Wilderness Systems, Perception, Heritage, etc...

Cool thing about them is they ship FREE to anywhere in the US. You can buy a bare boat or one that's been 'anglerized' from them online.

I've personally been looking for a used sit on top for fishing, but keep missing the boat. A day late and a dollar short, I guess :hehe:

I will likely end up ordering a prowler model from OutdoorPlay if I can't get lucky on eBay or one of the kayak forums pretty soon. Last time I checked their website I see they have the new Prowler Trident model available now too. So many choices, so little time.

I have ordered a lot of accessories and know people who have ordered kayaks. I've gotten great service each and every time I've ordered.

I have a Malibu Extreme kayak which I ordered directly from the factory in California. They shipped it to Orlando and I went and picked it up there.

Yeah, I like REI too. I'm a member of their "co-op" that gets you a rebate at the end of the year. Where I live it takes me about 45 minutes through ATL traffic to get to REI. I figure I could save a pretty penny in gas in my guzzler to have them shipped locally!!

Is there that much of a difference in the 120 and 140 (besides 2 feet!) to offset the price difference? Stability, ease of use, weight, etc..?

And an after thought - I think the angler versions are a reasonably good deal, but if you are at least a little bit handy and mechanical, you can probably rig the plain jane model yourself for about half what the add-on costs are for the angler model. Except you said your are in middle GA, so getting the gear to install yourself might mean added travel or shipping cost.

I have never purchased a kayak on line, but I own several Wilderness System Kayaks and believe you will not be disappointed with any of the ones you mention.

I have a Tarpon 160 and a Pungo 12 foot (sit inside) and my fishing buddy has a Tarpon 120 that he loves - I think one of those will be my next kayak purchase.

I bought a 16 foot canoe (Mad River) from REI at their Atlanta store and I really like those guys. I have bought a lot of stuff from them online and they have been great.

Hello everyone!

I've been lurking for a while and figure this is as good a time to post as ever.

Have any of you ever purchased a kayak online? I live in Middle Ga. and am a looong way from any dealers that carry the particular brands I'm looking at. All the dealers (BassPro, REI being the two closest) can order for me and ship to their retail location. I have found a website that offers free shipping to any business address (not a problem) and their prices are the same as other dealers. The wife and I currently have a 2 person kayak and we each want our own sit-on-top. Right now we are leaning towards the Tarpon 120 Angler, 140 Angler or the Wilderness Systems Ride 135. They will primarily be used for pond fishing but several times a year we vacation at St. George Island and we always take our yak.
