What I would do is replace the plugs, and clean the carb 1st because if you've also lost power, that's what it could be, just a real bad miss causing the vibration. Also, if all that checks out, check the flywheel, although it doesn't have actual "timing", if the key that holds the flywheel in place sheers, the timing will change, but the flywheel will still look normal.

Try hooking it up to a different fuel tank with fresh gas too, that might help you rule out a gas or tank problem, like bad gas, or inproper venting etc,.. Then check the compression. For an engine to run, it needs gas & air, fire, compression, and timing, that's all, so the probem is going to be one of those. 9 times out of 10 it's going to be a stupid little electrical problem, something you'd never suspect, like a bad ground wire or poor connection.

Anyway, I would start with the cheepest stuff 1st, then if all else fails take it to the mechanic.
Hope that helps some, good luck
Mike:)

RE: Outboard problems

I dont know alot but I had a old motor with a vibration from a bent prop shaft. spin prop w/motor in nuetral and look at end of shaft for wobble.

Outboard problems

I have a 50hp Mercury Force thats developed some issues recently. I was wondering if there are any Outboard gurus out their that might give me a lead on whats causing the problem.

The motor has developed a vibration,,, strong enough to rattle the bolts off that hold the starter on the block. The motor has also suffered a loss in power and it takes some work to get it started.

Any leads on what might be causing the vibration??? Any help is appreciated.
