Spider cracks on a boat

We have a Scout Cosca and have had spider cracks on it. I know that you can seal it but the crack goes arond the entire console and i't has me woried. Does anyone else have this problem. With thier boat?

Just finished building my first rod.Everything turned out how I wanted except the wrap finish it looks like epoxy over sand paper but just on the hook keeper wraps and the first 3 guide wraps all the rest look great.I cant figure out what I done wrong. I used flex coat high build finish. Any advice would be appriciated.

Cork repair and maintenance

Hey all,

I have a little OCD thing that drives me mad if my hands are wet while casting and retrieving. I have found cork to be my answer and I love using it. I built many a rod using those damn cork rings then shaping them on a lathe. Does anyone know how to recondition some cork that is starting to dry out a bit. Maybe some tongue oil or something but I need some help with it if you have any answers. Thanks,

I have discovered that push poles are an expensive item and am trying to get one for way cheaper. I was hoping to be able to make one from stuff around my house but that did not work out so I was hoping you guys had another way to construct one. I would not use it that often, and it does not have to be perfect or pretty, just something quiet to get me and my boat around. Thanks

power pole remote

I've already got a powerpole on my banshee, but don't have the remote. I'm realizing its a needed tool when I'm by myself on the front....instead of jumping around like I'm on hot coals to get to the back to lower it. Has anyone put on the remote by themselves? I am somewhat technically savvy, but I want to make sure this is a doable job.

I hope this doesnt sound stupid but i'd like to know what the difference between reel oil and reel grease is? I use quantim hot sauce and it works great but whats the grease for? Someone please let me know how to use it and when to use it like after i oil my reel or before? Thanks alot guys.

i just bought a quantum cabo nearoffshore mediumheavy rod and plan on buying their cabo 80 pt reel when it comes out. i plan on using berkley big game hi test 20# line for backing and then using a top shot of berkley crystal fireline 20# with a 100# flurocarbon leader. what knot should i use to connect my leader and mainline and then leader to my circle hooks? thank for the help

I have a 93 Suzuki 9.9hp that I use on my 14' Johnny,have had it for a little over 5 years now,cleaned the Carb/New Plug`s when I first got it, to get it running{Prrrrrrrring like a kitten}and has been the best darn motor I`ve ever owned.....Two pull`s in the morning to get her going,then one pull for the rest of the day.......

But over the past couple of month`s,it has started to run poorly,getting harder to start,and has now moved to Power Loss and Strange Hissing Noises,and even one Lock-Up after sitting a few days.....thought I had Carb Problems,so I Rebuilt the Carb,New Plug`s........it would run great for a few mins,then spit and sputter........so while bringing the boat back to my shop,the Right Slipper Spring broke at the Axle :w00t:,so with an extended stay,I started looking at the Power Head,getting ready to snatch it off,and I see this little Round Cover.........Then it Dawned on me:blush:, The Thermostat.....Man,Do I Feel Stupid.......3 Bolt`s{Two broke off in the head}and the cover was off.....the thermo looked like a Mud Covered Oyster :w00t:........had to pry it out.....Flushed it good,Drilled out the broken bolts,installed the cover,and ran it in the drum for an hour.......Runs like new :D

Not sure what damage has been done,I`m sure being overheated has not made it a better motor:P,I still need to take it out for a Power Run...but thats tomorrow....

My Question Is :

Should I replace the Thermostat,or just Toss it and leave it Open ?

Will it effect the Idle much during the colder month`s ?

It's taken a long time but, finally, big changes in the 1994 Action Craft. I picked it up, today, from Bob's Machine. The new hydraulic jackplate, low water pickup, and skeg, look absolutely awesome!!!! Tomorrow, it goes to Gunn's Welding, in St. Pete, to have a couple of badly rusted bolts extracted. Then...................... I've got to wait till the 2nd, to take it to Quality T-Tops, in Tarpon Springs, for the new poling platform.

Next.....refurb the trailer !!!!:w00t:

Hey folks, long time lurker,first post. Just got my boat,used 17 seapro with 75 merc. Took her for the maiden voyage Sunday by myself and noticed something odd. Very lite wheel when turning right, very stiff turning left. Any suggestions?

leaking grease

I have a 2005 50hp Johnson thats leaking a little oil by the prop. I would like to believe its just 2 stroke oil not burned of cause she smokes a little. I'm hoping its not a prop seal leaking crudded up gear case oil. Any suggestions?

Fuel Tank Trouble/Repacement

Was curious on anyone's experience with replacing fuel tank on a flats skiff. I have a 1998 19 Redfisher (Hewes). Was having engine trouble that after much $$$ spent, discovered that fuel and possibly check valve on fuel tank was bad. Probably from saltwater intrusion. Anyway, running great for months on surrogate 18 gal tank laying on floor. Need to take action to permanently repair problem. From what I was told by a friend, there is probably a checkball valve of sort on tank sending unit. This may be current problem along with somehow clearing tank of all unwanted visitors. There is a small access plate in floor directly above what I believe to be sending unit. Circular cap with pos/neg leads and 5-6 mounting screws. Pretty much only access to tank. Can't see actual fuel line, suspect is close by but hidden by foam filler. Anyone ever experience this situation and live to tell about? Thanks In Advance.;)

Shaft may be short

Hope I am not asking to many ????'s, but I noticed that when I took my new/used boat out the other day the troller kept coming out o' the water and it's adjusted all the way down. Can i get longer shaft or is there a better way to keep my shaft in?

I have Flatskracker`s 18' Flatsboat over here for a Major Electrical Refit,he has recently installed a Polling Platform,and wants to clean up the Front Deck,so we have Two Question`s :

#1. Does the Anchor Light have to be Higher than the Polling Platform ?

#2. Kracker has a Nav Light on the Front Deck......I know because I`ve broken my Toe on the darn thing :w00t:..... Can I install a Red and a Green Light to the Top-Front of the Center Consoule,and get rid of that Toe Buster ?

erratic behavior from boat at take off

Last time out on the water, I noticed something awkward.Sometimes, the boat took off fine. Other times, the boat picked up speed REALLY slow. I did have alot of weight inside the boat and my prop hit a tree and got banged up a bit. Now the motor has a small vibration, I'm assuming it's because the crack on the prop. But, what can cause this sometimes slow, but sometimes fast take off?

Fiberglass Hull Repair

I bought this boat.To sum it up, the hoses that run from the transom to the livewell are leaking water between the deck floor and the bottom hull. This is causing soft spots on the floor and other problems. The front deck has lost its stability, it's now really flexible. I'm assuming it needs new wood under it. I need to split the hull (take rub rail off and take the deck off the hull) and reinforce what ever fiberglass needs to be fixed and replace any rotten wood. I paint cars and boats, so I will be painting it my self. I need a estimated price and a place that can fix this for me. My father does Carpentry work and I messed around with fiberglass plenty of times on vehicles. I'm just freightened to break the top half of the hull when removing it from the bottom half.

Its a 14 foot whaler-like boat. It says "pro sports" on it but I dont know much about the boat. title says 91 Pro Sports boat. On the transom, it says 100% hand made. I'm scared to put a poling platform without knowing if the transom will hold up since the front deck is gone and a few soft spots on the floor I can't help but wonder if the transom is starting to rot.

I might not be able to get an estimate from anyone not knowing what needs to be repaired since the deck is hiding everything thats under, but a price to split it would be good to then from there get a price on the rest

trailer issues

so i gased up the boat for the weekend and started headin home i suddenly felt a vibration on the trailer i immediatly pulled over into a neiborhood and saw that one of beirings on my trialer had kind of melted/expolded...

...I'm only 16 but I'm pretty handy so I luckily had a replacment hub and did it in about half an hour......not to long of a fix but my bearings are now kinda exposed I guess and I think I might need like a buddy bearing or something. I packed the bearin's real good but i no the grease needs to be replaced ....i don't know alot bout trailer hubs besides the can explde while ur drivin' along i was wonderin if yall had any insight......

Fiberglass hull repair questions.

I have a 20 year old 12' custom skiff. I have many gel coat hair line cracks on the hull, and I also am rebuilding the transom. My question to all is what is the best way to dry out the cracks in the hull? I've heard that the best thing is to use acetone by wiping it over the hull and it will draw out the water. Next question: What is the best epoxy or finish to put over the hull to seal everything up after you've dried it out? Last question: I am planing on make a front deck for the boat. I know the basic lay out that I am trying to achieve, but unsure of what materials to use. I would like to stay away from using wood and I would like to use star board but unsure if it would be strong enough to support any amount of weight even once it is fiberglassed in. If any one can help me out there I would appreciate it.

i ahve a 13ft gheenoe, that i pole alot just standing on the back seat, while i am fishing for redfish in the indian river lagoon and kars park alot. i was wondering if anyone could help me out by telling me how to either make a platform or something to get me up higher for better vision and easier poling...any advice is helpful!!!!!!!

Time to build her a better than new Custom Electrical Harness,tape in each wire,one by one,until you can fit 12 wires into a 10 wire harness:

Modifications to FlatsHopper

Over the last several weeks we added a little height to the center console to accomodate the new GPS and also we added seats instead of just sitting on cushions during a long ride. The third seat will be in this week as we could only find two locally and we had to order them. The hatches are easily opened and the seats slide right off if we need to remove them. Mike at Master Repair did the modifications to the CC and Capt Benny Blanco had the ideas of the seats.

motorguide squealing

I have a 3 year old motorguide saltwater 55# thurst about six weeks ago it started squealing at me after about 3 hrs of fishing took prop off to eliminate possible cause still squeals tried lubricating where the shaft goes through the housing w/teflon no dice it does not seem to squeal until it warms up about 1hr on high or 3 hrs on speed 1 or two any ideas

Charging battery

I have a 2-12amp battery charger. If I were to put the battery switch on the boat to "BOTH" could I put terminals on one battery and charge both or would I have to switch to off and charge each one individually? In other words would I have to buy a second charger?

Painting a push pole

I just bought my father-in-law a Stiffy push pole for his new flats boat. Problem is, its white and he would like to make it black. Has anyone ever painted a push pole before? If so, any info would be greatly appreciated. Its fiberglass and I got a great deal on it.
