I catch everything on it, snook, baby tarpon, reds, trout, big jacks, bonitas, and macs. Just broke the tip on it today and my reel needs a new bail spring so it's out of commission til' I run to the tackle shop. For offshore/pier fishing I like my avet MXL on a 20-30# 8ft star. You can horse big snook out from under the pier with it and I love the 8ft rod for trolling.

RE: Your favorite all around rod

Nothing special at the moment i have a 7' daiwa coastal inshore series. Their warranty and service is second to none.

I have 5 of them: 2 7', 2 7'6", and 1 7'9". Love them all.

If you see an Evolution Rod, they are also very good with a solid carbon blank. What a great combo for larger fish. You'll like it.

I spent a few years upgrading my stuff, these are all my favorites.

     For inshore I also use:

     St.Croix Legend Inshore 7' 10-20 spinning with a Cabo 40,

     G Loomis IMX 7' 8-17 spinning with a VS40,

     G Loomis IMX 7'6" 10-20 spinning with a Cabo 40,

Legend Inshore 6'6" 10-20 casting with Penn Sargus,

Quantum Cabo 7' 8-17 casting with Energy PTS,

Techna AV 6'6" 10-25 casting with Cabo CBC20 PTS,

      G Loomis GLX 9' 2-pc 8wt. and 9wt.

I would give the Greenwater another chance. It is far lighter than the Tidemaster. Or get a Legend Inshore, lifetime warranty, feather light...Well worth it. (Try ebay)

On a side note, I purchased a Sustain FE 4000 to use with 7' Legend and what a P.O.S!!! it started off fine but during the first trip out with it, it got harder to turn handle and 'grinding' under the rotor/shaft. I returned it and got another Cabo. To each their own, You could not give me another saltwater Shimano. (Well, you could give it to me but I'd exchange it for something else.) I do use a Chronarch for bass fishing and it's worked just fine.

RE: Your favorite all around rod

shimono teramar 7" medium with a stradic 2500

RE: Your favorite all around rod

Well the greenwater had a guide ring that was cracked on it , took it back bought the
St.Croix TIS76MF Tidemaster and love it I used it all day Friday and Saturday ,

gonna try the Med.Light 7'6 for plastics.
