I have a few, durable and reasonably prised. I do everything from wading for bones to yellowtails on the reef to reds in the panhandle.

RE: Thinking about a new reel...

I have two Captivas (4000, 6000) and I've never had a problem with them, but I have heard of people having problems. I'm sure as long as you take care of it, it will work out fine for you.

I prefer Pflueger reels myself, I have a Trion 3500, 2 Presidents 4000, and a Medalist 4000, all of which have never given me any problems. My Trion is 4 years old, the Medalist is 2 1/2 , one Pres. is a year old and the other is 4 months old.

What it really comes down to is...take care of your stuff, keep them well maintained and you'll rarely ever have a break down. Case in point, my oldest reel is a Penn 4400 (about 10 years old) I keep it oiled and greased and she's a tank but she gets the job done.
Hope that helps.

RE: Thinking about a new reel...

shimano sahara--$60

Thinking about a new reel...

I'm looking at a Penn Captiva 4000 with the Live Bait liner (costs about $55.00-$65.00). What is your opinion? I don't like to spend a lot of money (but I do have standards) on a reel because I tear them up too quickly.
