The good news? You're finding, seeing and casting to fish, which is arguably the toughest part of the equation. The rest is fine-tuning and patience.

Good luck to you.

RE: How to sightcast?

make sure to use a long enough leader flurocarbon and make to not tocast your line over a fish cast in front but not over a fish then bring your bait to the fish head that way your not casting over the fish and it doesnt get to see the line before the bait

RE: How to sightcast?

When sight casting to tailing fish or fish that you can see, you must be daed silent and still. If you can see them they can see you or at lease hear you. When casting to tailing fish present you lures as far past them as you can, let it sit of a few seconds before retreaving. Try to bring your bait on the outside of the school, so not to spook them if it passes threw the middle of the pack. Work the bait as natual as possable and be patient.

As you approching the fish try to pole your way to them as a trolling motor will only scare them. If you do not have a push pole or don't feel like polling, like me, use the wind to your advantage. Set up a drift that will bring you on the outside of the fish and not over top of them it you want more than one shot. If the wind is not blowing in your favor, you must deal with polling or use the trolling motor, but use it wisely. Turn the troling motor on the lowest speed and don't change it, the fish will pick up on the change of pitch and spook. Good luck next time you run into this situation.

Austin

RE: How to sightcast?

When in doubt, cast it out. How far you are from them also has a lot to do with it. Generally speaking if you can see them they they can probably see you. If you are lucky enough to get up to them without spooking or shutting down the bite then you need to cast about 15 to 20 feet in front of them and let the bait/lure fall to the bottom. Let it sit there for about a minute or so. Once it has settled to the bottom, give it a pop to make it jump off the bottom and let it sit again. Watch the fish to see if they are alerted to the movement, if they are let it sit there a little longer and then slowly- very slowly reel it in about 5 feet and stop there. Let it sit again and see what their reaction is if they are hungry and actively feeding within a couple moves they should explode on the bait/lure. These fish a leader shy so if your using too heavy of leader they will see it and not go for the bait. I recommend using twenty pound flouro. or less in clearer water conditions. I also dont use swivels when tieing line to line as it messes up the presentation and also lets them see your line easier. Try out these tips and I hope that they work for you. Good luck and remember, its called fishing, not catching so sometimes you just wont get them......

How to sightcast?

i was fishing a low tide today and could see a cluster of snook and a few red fish sitting out in the water and i kept casting in front of them and retrieving it past them but nothing would bite?
