When growing up fishing with dad and his brother topwater was a no-no after sun up and until the sun started to set. It was also only a summer time bait. I grew up fishing from The Tomoka Basin, south to the Lagoon and over time I have developed my own patterns including proving to them that it does not have to be the last two hours outgoing or first two incoming. If I can find water I can usually take you to a fish.

I like the soft jerk baits but don't like the casting distance and I love watching and hearing my lure work. So all year long I work the top, starting with one lure working down to my "go to" lure.

First let me say that there are a lot of you guys out there who worship Yozuri lures. The only thing they have ever caught for me, is me. They are so damn pretty you can't resist but I swear I have never even had a swat at them.

My first stop I throw my Skitterwalk, pearl white, redfish pattern, black over silver. I will move onto any of the Mirrolure "dog" patterns. They work great but in my opinion do not sit as high in the water as the skitterwalk and you tend to pick up more trash.

As I have mentioned I am good friends with the two boys who's dad started MirrorLure so every now and then I get to special order some colors and what they say about each lure being hand tested before packaged is true. I have watched the little old guy sit at a sauna type pool, pulling lure after lure and fine tuning as needed.

High Roller is the best kept secret on the market I think, truly a great lure but sometime hard to find.;

Last but not least if I am getting short strikes or not any strikes at all I got to my Pop-R. Black over silver with the red tail feather. I tie flies so I most often add that same feathered hook to most of my lures.

Last, last but not least if you asked me what color produces the most fish for me and give me confidence it is without a doubt Chartreuse and Black. I like the black body and green head but the reverse works as well. High roller and Mirrorlure both produce one.

Hope this helps.

c

RE: cloudy day......what to use

You know what I say...Spoon Feed Em Till They Puke ;)

RE: cloudy day......what to use

Mullet pattern skitterwalk

RE: cloudy day......what to use

Top water!!!!!!tight lines!!

RE: cloudy day......what to use
FlatsKracker (9/22/2007)
I have the trusty High Roller tied on already
catch a few for me there LT. It comes in a black hue which works great on those dark days or early or late. Gulp makes a lug worm that Capt. Dave Rogers recommends and it works great. The only problem with the Gator spoon is the hook rusts out in very short order.

RE: cloudy day......what to use
tailfisher98 (9/20/2007)
TOPWATER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Exactly, any dark color to give a better contrast.

RE: cloudy day......what to use

Match the hatch.

but its hard to beat a bone color @ first light or a black and silver mullet pattern, atleast in my opinion... but my favorite is a 3.75" HighRoller in "Florida Special"

RE: cloudy day......what to use

what patterns?

RE: cloudy day......what to use

TOPWATER!!!!!!1

RE: cloudy day......what to use

TOPWATER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

cloudy day......what to use

on a cludy morning and then into a rainy afternoon....? what to use....thanks pleasereply!
