Welcome to the forum littlekid (since you mentioned your wife, I assume you're not a little kid, lol)

Excellent suggestion! Once you break the seal on the Alive! shrimp, you cannot seem to get it to stop leaking. I put mine in a big zip-loc bag and make sure they sit flat to keep it from leaking, but I'm going to throw my plumbers tape in the boat box and give it a try when I go out later today....>THANKS!

Hi, I'm new to this forum. My tackle box smells of the stuff becuase of the "bucket" leaking. For anyone interested, I fixed the problem with a couple of wraps around the threads with some white plumber's tape you buy at any hardware store. As for, does it work, love the stuff. Last week I caught a 19" flounder with a Molten color and as I was removing the jig he continued to injest the Gulp. This has occurred with both the reds and trout I've caught. I guess they still want their meal after the fight. My deciding factor for the price was when me wife caught and landed a sting ray while letting her jig sit; I thought they only ate live or somewhat fresh dead shrimp. Oh by the way, it's not GULP ALIVE, it's "stinky shrimp" as my wife refers to it when my she asks the sale person.:)

If you've seen Trim-Tabs tackle suitcase, you will know what he means about having to decide what bait to start with.......I think the man is a collector of fishing tackle......

I know one thing......I don't offer to carry his tackle bag any more....I'll take the cooler or a trolling motor battery any day over his tackle bag!

I was reading one of the tubs and now they suggest "recharging" your gulp baits in the juice. lol

Seems like they can't make up their minds.

As far as the "flavor" all the baits use the same enzyme that is supposed to trigger the feeding of fish.

They work, but I find DOA more durable. I won't even begin to claim I stick to one bait, I have no reason to.

I use both GULP and DOA, and other plastics. I also use lunker sauce. I even use live and cut bait. I'm not sponsored by anyone, I don't really fish tournaments, and all I care about is catching fish. (not even so much keeping fish, just catching.) If it puts more fish on the end of my line, it's done its job, regardless of what I use. :w00t:

I'm a swinger when it comes to baits. If one thing doesn't work in an area i KNOW there are fish, I switch up until I find what does.

Sometimes it's a problem though, as I have to figure out what to try... I've really started limiting my choices on some trips.

They just don't want you using their attractant like we all do anyway. You can literally throw 10 different kinda of bait in the bucket at once with no ill effects. Take any old soft plastic swim bait and toss em in with your shrimp, and you've a mobile Gulp Alive bait can. I've got the sand fleas, crabs, minnows, and shrimp, along with generic 'mart baits' all in one bucket and I see no depletion of hook-ups.

I've been rigging drop shot style (don't use a pyramid weight) and the Gulp fleas and crabs up the line on flourocarbon with a twitch here and there, and you'll catch many different fish with that rig. Even timid Sheephead will eat those crabs if you work em right. Also works GREAT in the flats worked with a real slow jigging motion for Reds. I even got a stray Pompano with a sand flea near our jetties working that rig. And the baits last f-o-r-e-v-e-r, (unless the Spanish take a liking to it) that why they say not to put it back in the bucket. So you run out faster and but more bait.

Try it out.

I was reading on the gulp alive quart of shrimp not to mix gulp alive with other baits i was going to put some doa shrimp and shad tails in the container does anyone know why this is becuse on their alive spray bottle says it can be sprayed on all type of lures and to do so every 10 to 15 cast so is the formula different or is berkely trying to get me to buy just there products or does t putting other lures in the tubes effect the gulp shrimp etc because they arent plastic they are some biodegradable stuff?

yea i know berkley products are higher on there main site i dont use much gulp, i like lunker sauce it cost more but a tube of it last me a long time i use one tube a year and it cost about 12 bucks for a tube of the soft plastic one and 9 bucks for the gel for hard baits and i can get it in crab, shrimp, shad, sardine and mullet. i think there both good products but in the kayak i find it easier to use lunker sauce because i dont get the smell all over my hands and shirt when im rigging in the kayak while sitting down i spill the gulp alive jars in the kayak and when the boat com by and shake me all around some people just have no respect for others i my area and they come by as fast as they can and get you all wet and splash water all over while im paddling.

if your catching ladyfish you are not getting down into the water cloumn you might need to use more weight try a 1/4 oz jighead or use a larger size shrimp 4" size.

hey this is redfishingmike i fish charlotte harbor to im going down april 9 i use gulp shrimp to but i havent caughtin anything off it except ladyfish i really want to catch reds and specks and hopefully snook but im not sure what spots to fish and how to fish em i usually stay up by el jobean bridge area do you think you could help me out

I purchased one of those containers that have a locking lid. It is called a "Lock and Lock". The one I purchased is 4" x 3x 4 1/2 high. It has more then enough room for an entire container of the Gulp Alive $19 size baits and does not leak. It works great.

No bleeding. I would keep it covered. Gulps tend to oxidize and turn orange.

Can anybody tell me how long after you open the container that the liquid and bait remain "good"? Does it spoil or go bad at some point? Also, if I put other plastic baits that have different colors, will the colors bleed from bait to bait?

If the tub leak is the issue.. move them to a jar with a plastic lid or tupperware. I've done that and no more leaks. The spray is the same as the "juice" for shrimp. Spray some in a ziplock and throw gulps in there while you are fishing. You can mix colors with no transfer like other plastics. Get home, put them back in the alive tub for refreshing. When you are out there, you can also spray the bait occasionally like you would for bass with the bang spray. This works well for me.

I do the same with the s/blurps. I have a product called bio-chum and I put my DOAS and slurps in it in a tupperware with the chum. It sits in that until a tie them on. Keeps them nice and stinky and greasy.

where do you buy the saltwater gulp sprays i have only seen garlic and crawfish i figured the crawfish would work about like shrimp i think a gulp spray would be alot cleaner than the alive tubs not leaking and no getting the smell on your hands like before.

does anyone know if alive is in different smells flavors or is it just one because the lunker sauce is different flavors and sents and is in a liquid soft plastic formula and a gel hard baits which last well over 30 minutes in the water i like them both but really like the gel i think im going to just buy the gel from now on so i dont have to keep so many different bottles and it is alot less messy than other sents i just put the sent in my plasitc zip lock bags and my lures get all the sent in the lures.

The only advantage I see of the gulp alive over the bags of gulp is that you can add other soft plastics to the tub and get more of the scent on them easier in the tub than the bag.

Gulp Alive baits are great,I picked some up just as a fluke,(small minoes in new penny and black/gray)fishing the rigs off of Louisiana,(port foushon) leesville.for Reds and Specks,ran out of live bait (shrimp,croker,) turned to the Gulp and we limited out on Reds and Specs,the smaller bait stealers just can't get them off,leaving them for the big boys,most of the time the Gulps would just slide off the hooks,and up the line and you just slide it back down,aprox.4 fish to every bait.I will never go out without my Gulps,and now I'm not as concerned if there is no live bait.

gulp alive is great and well worth the money i haven't had it spill on me yet though but i threw in all of my doa stuff to give them a little more flavor. if you want to be cheap they make a gulp spray a lot like the lunker sauce but you can keep all of the berkley baits in a lock-tight tupperware container and that works the best. I have a smaller one and have gulp baits and doa baits in there. It takes up little room and works best on my kayak and since its clear you can just look for the bait you need instead of searching through a bunch of bags. the shrimp and minnow grubs have worked the best for me. i haven't had any luck with the mullet ones yet though

I've had my Alive for 3 months now and I love it, I throw some of my regular plastics in there and they come out smelling Alive.:D The tubs do leak but if you keep them upright they are fine. When they did leak it was such a slow leak, maybe a drop every ten minutes.

The tubs do leak, but I found if you use a knife and cut a circle in the middle of the seal, leaving enough room to get your fingers in to grab the bait, the remaing seal forms a gasket around the edge cutting down on leakage. I've been tearing up the reds in Charlotte Harbor using the 4" shrimp in the "New Penny" color.

i think carolina lunker sauce last longer and it is alot clear and less messy the gulp works but so does the lunker sauce if you soak your lures in it like they tell you to the gulp leaks out and can mess uo your clothing and boat the smell and stains will never come out of your boat

For us Gulp Alive now easily out sells Gulp Packets. The results from both are outstanding and cost basically the same on a per bait basis. Get a pint or 2 and try it out for yourself. Search around and you can find pints for around $17 and quarts for around $33.

Be careful with the tubs, dont spill or overload it... its a mess, but I put all my used baits in there... The stuff is slightly better, its worth a go... try the swimming mullet or shrimp
