I got a 7' medium action and 7'6" medium light action, both of which will cast a 1/16 oz jig with a soft plastic a mile. I can work a DOA shrimp with great precision and feel every movement. I would recommend them to anyone, they're great rods and wont brake the bank.

RE: Favorite RODS

i love herringtons my favorite

RE: Favorite RODS

The Ugly stick is a great rod and will stand up to some real punishment. Use a ugly stik lite for whipping shrimp under docks and they handle reds well. Recently broke a quantum cabo and decided to try out the star rod stellar lite. Went with the 7 foot, 10-20 lb, and cannot be happier. Still own several allstar and bass pro extremes, but might be a star rod guy for life. Right around a $100 and cannot beat it for pulling snook and reds off dock and out of mangroves.

RE: Favorite RODS

The Wright Mcgill is better than advertised. Also, the warranty and service is better than ANY other rod out there. I broke a tip and they sent me a new rod. Very light and comfortable. Awesome sensitivity, Great backbone. Have tamed 40 lb dolphin and 30 lb permit with these rods. Great rods from Great people. You can get a $40 ugly stick and I still have mine, but the difference is obvious and there is really no comparision for a long term rod. The WM is also MUCH lighter

RE: Favorite RODS

I have to say that my very favorite rod for mogan snook under the dock lights is hands down the Wright McGill 8ft rod with 40lb powerpro. The tip has great touch but the backbone and grit of this rod is awesome! I bought it before Blair had his signature series and I was wowed. When I use this rod I have the confidence that I can win the tug of war!

GladesGhost

"It only takes one"
GladesGhost

RE: Favorite RODS

Guess you already know what I put my vote for.

I've gone thru all that have been mentioned...liked alot of them, but the WM is still the one for me! Not just the sig series either. I've found that the Shimano Teramar rods are very good rods for their price. I do own a Shimano Calcutta rod which has become my favorite, go-to, rod! A good rod for a 5/8 jig on a casting rod is not necessarily a effective rod for a 6" Bomber. Any under $ 80 that works with my setup I like. Very sleek looking and great feel.

They also have top notch cork grips. I own two Teramars and one Carbomax. Each costs under 100$.

RE: Favorite RODS

My vote goes for Shimanos. I have both the Teramar and the Crucial series rods and love them both. The Teramars are graphite, but bend almost like an Ugly Stick, yet they are much lighter and more sensitive than Ugly Stiks. The Crucial is one of the lightest, most sensitive spinning rods I've tried yet. It compares to a GLoomis that is twice the price.

The best part is all Shimanos have an over-the-counter lifetime warranty. No having to pay shipping or a service charge to get a new rod. Just take it down to your local tackle shop that carries them and they hand you a new one!

RE: Favorite RODS

another vote for St. Croix. The only problems I have had are with the rod is that I broke the metal eye ring on the tip but I can complain I've caught several 30+ inch snook on it and some giant stingrays.

RE: Favorite RODS

you cant beat the ugly stik, honestly ive used mine for years and years now, and still dont have any probs, now i bought another one due to the first one getting eatin by a shark.....

RE: Favorite RODS

I like the new Ugly Stick intercoastal for a cheap rod. Karl that are my favorite!!! 7'9 graphite shikari blanks with custom measurements and Fuji SIC guides. These are my go to rods for having to make long casts with light weight lures or shrimp at weiry bonefish or redfish, plus they have enough backbone to put the brakes on a snook surging into the mangroves. Do yourselves a favor, ask Capt. Karl to build you a custom and give it a shot.

RE: Favorite RODS

On an affordable standpoint I really like the Extreme rods from Bass Pro I've caught some good sized w/ them and it felt great fighting the fish on them

Favorite RODS

What is your favorite Rod and why??
