| | Fished Manasota Key in South Sarasota County again this morning. Still had some weeds floating around in the surf but conditions were fishable and the snook were still feeding. They are gorging themselves on small glass minnows and whitebait and were busting up the bait schools this morning. Sightfishing was just about impossible since the water was off-colored from the afternoon rains we have been having almost daily now. Glass minnows and small white bait are all over our area beaches and the snook are smashing them. Small white flies are working very well since their size is very similar to the bait. If you use something slightly larger for spinning tackle, sometimes they just won't eat it because it is a size issue. Yes, in this case size does matter! LOL  What I finally had to do was to downsize to something that is very similar is size and color to the small glass minnows and whitebait. The answer.......A 1/8 oz White Spro Baby Bucktail! It is deadly and although small, the Gamakatsu hook is very sharp and strong. When the snook are keyed in on eating very small baits, white flies and white bucktails (for spinning guys) will get bites. I've used the Spro Prime bucktail in 1/4 and 3/8 oz sizes and have taken some nice snook with these larger sizes but the 1/8 oz size is working very well right now since it matches the size forage and color the fish are feeding on. Sometimes, you just got to try a little finesse fishing to get a bite! This just may be the best beach snook fishing I have had in the past 20 years. Still trying to get a 40+ inch fish this year but the opportunity still has not presented itself just yet! The tally for this morning - 13 snook all caught and released and 3 seatrout! Finally got the snook and seatrout to hit a 1/4 oz. Nite-Glo shrimp w/ chartreuse tail a little later in the day. On two casts, I had snook smash the shrimp just after it hit the water! I'm also using 15 lb Hi-Vis braided line and 25 lb flurocarbon leader. Tight Lines,

| Your right Ken, the snook are all over the beach this year. I have almost stopped fishing for them. I say almost, what I mean is, as soon as I show someone how easy it is, I stop fishing and just watch, have a beer, or take Pics. Ten cast= two snook this morning, then set in the shade and talked to Bare Foot Bobby.

| I've seen those fish! You and Richard take good photos. Very very nice Andy!  It has been a banner year for beach snook. You getting any pompano lately? That pompano pic is a really nice one. I wonder if the pompano bite goes in cycles. Are you getting into any sand fleas along the beach? The guys in Tampa say that the pompano bite is off this year. I wonder if they are catching any in Sarasota Bay. I heard the pomps are hitting from Stump Pass on south to Boca Grande in the surf. I sure would like to catch a couple and put them on the grill! The snook bite is definetly on fire in our area! Tight Lines. KT

The snook bite is definetly on fire in our area! Tight Lines. KT Ken, that pompano was the only one caught. It was caught on a sand flea, but I think it was just a lucky catch. I seen a few caught on Manasota Beach a few days ago. Might have to leave the snook alone, and fish for pompano only one day. Sand fleas on #4 circle hooks with rod in the sand spike, and we still could cast for snook. Yes, the sand fleas are back on the beach. See Ya!
