i def wouldnt change the rigging of the bait!

mark nichols made it like that for the action and slow movement it makes if your having trouble with the hookups when you feel them eat dont set the hook right away let them take it and eat it for a few seconds before setting the hook that is always how i get better hook ups when i use them. just remember patience is the key when using this bait.

also if you arent already using some i would recomend some kind of braided line pp or suffix the sensitivity of braid will make you feel the bite way more than regular mono and you might have a second or two to react better when the fish eats.

Finally, I slip a Woody's elongated plastic worm rattle in the cavity on the bottom of the shrimp below the hook as this creates a little rattling sound when I pop the lure. You can use some super glue if needed to seat the shrimp (I use Loctite Super Glue - Reorder # 01-30380) if needed. This super glue comes in a 4 gram bottle (gel) that you squeeze along the sides. It's the only one I've found that does not dry out after you use it!

Hey Ken,

Do you have a link or somthing to the rattle you use?

and you just super glue it to the bottom of the shrimp under the weight?

does anyone do anything about the hook coming out of the shrimp after you catch a few (like a 1/4-3/8" or so)......ive been thinking of sticking a tooth pick throught the shrimp and into the eye and breaking it off so i wont keep coming out and affecting the action......or would the superglue you use to hold the rattle on there work?

PSJ Nick,

Here is the link for the Woodies rattle that fits in the hole in the shrimp that is on the underside just past the slide in worm weight:

 www.woodiesrattlers.com/html/rattle_inserts.html

You don't need to superglue it, just push it in the existing hole in the belly of the shrimp just past the hole that the worm weight goues into. Push it in and let it stick out just a little bit of the plastic. This rattle is elongated and made of plastic. I will also use a glass worm rattle if the water conditions are a little choppier since it is louder.

I do use superglue at times to seat the straight shanked worm hook especially if it is a 4/0 size for the 1/4 oz shrimp. Once the hook gets ripped out of the shrmp several times and the plastic gets torn, just re-thread the hook into a better piece of plastic or superglue it back in. You can reuse the shrimp quite a few times by doing this instead of using a brand new one!

My favorite brand of Superglue is the Loctite brand since it can easily be re-used. i like the contol gel since it is very easy to apply and doesn't clog up:

Good rigging!

It's pretty fast, maybe a minute or two tops. I usually rig up several shrimp before I go so I don't have to worry about gluing my fingers or skin together while I'm on the water.
