  •     I want to get involved with flyfishing and I was thinking about the Ross Cimarron reel and Redington Crosswater saltwater rod. Is this a decent starter outfit? Has anyone had any experience with these products? I want quality but don't want to break the bank either. Also what are the differences between 2 piece rods versus 3 and 4 piece rods?

I do not know much about the reel but for that kind of money it should be a good reel. I use a Okuma Airframe which is very low cost and yet high performance.
The Redington rods I like. I throw an 8weight redington now and really enjoy it.
The combo should be a great place to start. The other thing to consider is fly line. DO NOT go cheap with the line. Get the best line you can. I would rather spend 100 on flyline and 20 on a reel then the other way around.

Also if you are new to casting make sure you get some lessons. This is the most important part of starting in flyfishing. A proper knowledge on how to cast will save you much frustration. Many a starter has stopped due to this.

I started with a 10wt.(got a deal on the rod) albright and for under $200.0 it's  good. I have read online on other sites some good things about the Okumas as for good value/performance. I'm still getting into the salt/fly thing as i have charter customers who would like to do it.(mostly strpers and blues up here). I am in the process of setting up a 9wt. from Coltonfly.com and he makes really nice rods and reels at reasonable cost. Still practicing!!!

Ross makes a quality reel as does Redington.  You should be fine with that setup.

It's only $25.00. If you fish inshore, anywhere in Florida, you have no excuse!
