Up on the flats, just about any boat that gets you there is a good one, no need to spend $40,000.   Watch CooknFish and his crew, they fish from kayaks exclusively and don't seem to have any problems getting on the fish.

Actually, I think your approach is the smart one......start small and inexpensive, then, once you get more experience and figure out how/where you like to fish, you will have a much better idea of what you need and the layout/design you want.   I'd hate to drop a load of money on a boat then decide you don't like it, or (God forbid) you decide fishing is not for you (seen that happen before).

Good luck, and let us know how you do!

After fishing with Cracker yesterday on the Indian River, I am considering buying me a john boat ! I have a Key Largo 186 which gets pretty skinny , but there aint nothing out there that will go where we did in that little john boat ! All the fancy 40*50 thousand dollar flats boats were stuck 100 yards away from us..So yeah , I say that yours is the perfect boat for the flats !

yeah i think that would work its similar to mine, mine is a 14ft jon boat with a 25 horse on the back push pole and trolling motor and it works great for me and got the boat for 50$ and the motor was 800$ and trolling motor 300$

Why Not ,just take it slow, stick near the shallow`s until you get use to how the boat handles, and takes the Chop Waves......Make a Push-Poll about 14' for it....Good Luck !

Over on the General Info section, there is a Thread going :

Let`s See Your Boat

Ya might get some Idea`s

Not Just Another Cracker !
