It’s not every day that a company comes along with a product that revolutionizes the way people do things. On New Year’s Eve 1997, John Oliverio made a resolution to change his life. When the first Power-Pole hit the market in 2000, John changed many lives and we would never anchor in shallow water the same way again.
The idea for Power-Pole was conceived on the flats in Sarasota Bay while fishing for redfish at the infamous Long Bar. Using a conventional anchor was often noisy and spooked the schools of fish or brought the boat into an unfavorable casting position. As a friend of John’s pointed out, repeatedly anchoring in the same area can leave the bottom pocked with anchor scars.
Oliverio and his lifelong friend, Robert Shamblin, quickly realized the environmental benefits of their invention. The pole leaves a single stamp about the size of a 50-cent piece compared to the dredging of mud and grass done by conventional anchors. Taking the environmentally friendly device to the next level, Power-Pole is now using Green Marine ISO-32; a 100% biodegradable hydraulic oil. Though Power-Pole is designed to never leak, Green Marine offers added peace at mind if an unfortunate accident does occur. The combined seed and vegetable oils completely biodegrades in 28 days.
Addictive Fishing is proud to announce that Power-Pole is once again supporting the show and signing up for the 2010 season. The host, Capt. Blair Wiggins, is no stranger to the benefits of hanging a Power-Pole off the back of his boat as it became instrumental in his tournament fishing success. Power-Pole is certainly familiar with the benefits of sponsoring a highly rated television show reaching into millions of homes each week. Two companies working together making sure we both stick around for a while.
